UNCG Women’s Golf Sit Atop Leaderboard at Elon Invitational

ALAMANCE, N.C. -The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women’s golf powered through its first and second rounds on Monday in its season opener to lead the 15-team field at the Elon Women’s Invitational in first place at Alamance Country Club. The Spartans have a two-round total of 575, which is three strokes over host Elon (578) and five shots over Radford and William & Mary (580).

Junior Grace Holcomb posted a two-under-par (140) performance in the 36-hole day, to tie for first after two rounds. Holcomb posted a team-low score of 69 in the second round.

With a score of one over par, Julia Baeumken tallied a score of 143 to place tied for seventh after rounds one & two. She moved up the leaderboard with her one-under-par (70) performance during round two.

As an individual Freshman Elle Burnette is tied for 18th place at four-over-par (146). Sophomore Alexandra Phelps is also tied for 18th through 36 holes.

Senior Victoria Cook and Junior Ava Romfo round out the Spartans’ score by tying for 33rd at seven-over-par (149).

The Spartans finish play at the Elon Women’s Invitational on Tuesday, September 19th with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Alamance County Club.

UNCG Men’s Golf in Seventh After Two Rounds in Season Opener

CINCINNATI, OHIO – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men’s golf team stands at seventh out of 17 teams after the first two rounds of action in the squad’s season opener on Monday at the Bearcat Invitational, hosted by Cincinnati. All teams played 36 of the 54 holes throughout Monday morning and afternoon.

Symon Balbin stands in a three-way tie for 10th place out of 90 individuals. Balbin led the Spartans with a total of nine birdies over the 36 holes on Monday. Balbin began the tournament by posting a four-under-par (67) in round one. After round one, Balbin was tied for 2nd with his four-under-par (67). He finished the first nine holes with a three-under-par (33). However, the graduate student lost momentum in round two after closing it out with a two-over-par (73).

Noah Connor stands just behind Balbin in a nine-way tie for 13th place. Connor tallied a one-under-par (70) after recording three birdies in the opening round of the tournament. Connor continued his momentum into the first nine of round two by recording four birdies. The Reidsville, N.C. native, finished the second round at an even par (71).

Kelvin Hernandez made his collegiate debut on Monday with a three-over-par (74) in the first round. The freshman carded 12 pars over the 36 holes on the day.

INSIDE THE SCORECARD

The Spartans stand at three-over-par with a 282 in round one and a 289 in round two.
UNCG notched 30 birdies as a team over the 36 holes.
Connor, Randall Hudson and Jack Marcotte carded seven birdies apiece on the day.
The Spartans totaled 113 pars as a team.
Cincinnati stands atop the leaderboard at 12-under-par (557). Following closely behind is The Southern Conference (SoCon) foe, Chattanooga with a nine-under par (559).

Up Next
The Spartans finish the Bearcat Invitational tomorrow with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. UNCG will begin at hole seven and are paired with FGCU and Southern Miss.
