Facility Renaming Proposal Sent Out for Public Comment
August 15, 2023 – The public is invited to weigh in on the proposed renaming of the gym at Southeast Guilford High.
At Tuesday night’s meeting, the Guilford County Board of Education Facilities Naming Committee Chair Deborah Napper, presented a nomination to rename the main gym at Southeast after Fred Whitfield. Whitfield is a 1976 graduate of Southeast and the CEO and a minority owner of the Charlotte Hornets.
In a nomination form, signed by eight community and school leaders, Mr. Whitfield is described as an active supporter of Southeast High, the county, state and country. He is dedicated to advancing the lives of children from various backgrounds and instilling the values of honesty, integrity, respect, concern for others, dedication and discipline in their lives.
The public can submit feedback on the nomination by emailing them to boardclerk@gcsnc.com. The Board of Education will consider the proposal at its September meeting.
