Ramey’s Rockingham Review | Reidsville advances to second round, Rockingham eliminated by North Lincoln

Two of the four teams in Rockingham County, the Rockingham Cougars and Reidsville Rams, were able to make it to the NCHSAA postseason. On Friday night, both teams participated in blowouts, with one being on the right side of it and one suffering the loss.

The Cougars, the only 3A team in the county, seized the eighteen seed in the playoffs due to their 7-3 record. Interestingly, they went undefeated on the road, but had a losing record at Cougar Pride Stadium in Wentworth. That unblemished road record got its first spot, however, when Rockingham traveled two hours southwest and were defeated, 7-50, by the North Lincoln Knights, in the opening round of the NCHSAA 3A Playoffs. This loss capped off a very successful season for the Cougars.

For the second year in a row, the Reidsville Rams kicked off the tournament with a fifty-point win over the Madison Patriots. The merciless, 58-0 shutout allows them to advance to a rematch with the West Stokes Wildcats next week. When the Rams and the Wildcats met earlier this year, Reidsville defeated them, 49-8. For that reason, Reidsville should be confident heading into this second-round battle.

The Rams are the lone survivor here in the Rock entering the second round of the playoffs.
