2022 SEASON:

• Versatile player who saw action at safety and nickel in 2022.

• Started at nickel versus UConn, Florida State and Louisville.

• Also played safety in three games last season.

• Saw action at both spots at Clemson, Syracuse and VT.

• Missed the UNC game and the Duke’s Mayo Bowl with an injury.

2021 SEASON:

• Came on strong in the second half of the 2021 season, he had started four games at strong safety before missing the UNC game with an injury.

• Turned in the game of his career in the win at Boston College. Broke up a pass in the endzone to deny an Eagle score, then scored a touchdown on a ‘scoop and score’ of a bobbled punt.

• Named the ACC Specialist of the Week for that performance

• Saw action in a career-high 82 snaps as a starter vs. Wake Forest.

• Tallied a career-high tying five tackles at FSU.

• Started at free safety vs. La. Tech and at strong safety vs. Louisville.

• Earned the Philip Rivers Freshman of the Year Award for the team.

• Missed the beginning of 2021 spring drills as he recovered from offseason knee surgery.

2020 SEASON:

• True freshman who was in for 70 snaps in the win at Virginia when starting FS Tanner Ingle was DQed for targeting.

• One of just three true freshmen to start a game in 2020, he got the nod at FS at UNC.

• A 2020 early enrollee.

HIGH SCHOOL:

• Played cornerback at Ragsdale High School for his father, Johnny Boykin. Also played on offense: at wide receiver as a senior and at quarterback as a junior and sophomore.

• Career Stats: In his four-year varsity career, completed 140-of-262 passes for 1,817 yards and 18 touchdowns in 44 games. Had 300 rushes for 1,287 yards and 10 scores. Caught 67 passes for 881 yards and 18 more TDs. Totaled 3,985 career yards and 29 touchdowns. On defense, finished with 95 career tackles, seven tackles for loss, and six interceptions.

• As a senior: Tallied 44 tackles and four TFLs, along with four interceptions. On offense, caught 49 passes for 641 yards and 16 touchdowns. Had 64 rushes for 375 yards and a pair of scores, with one game over 100 yards. Team advanced to the third round of the North Carolina 4A state championship. Invited to play in the 2019 Shrine Bowl.

• As a junior: Turned in 33 tackles and three TFLs. On offense, completed 54-of-103 passes for 671 yards and seven touchdowns. Had 132 carries for 588 yards and five TDs.

• As a sophomore: Completed 80-of-143 passes for 1,070 yards and 11 touchdowns. Posted a 96.8 QB Rating. Rushed 89 times for 339 yards and three TDs.

• Also played basketball for Ragsdale, he averaged 16.3 points and 3.7 assists per game as a junior. As a sophomore, averaged 12.6 points and 3.0 assists.

• Rankings: The No. 15 recruit in the state of North Carolina by 247sports.
