UNCG Women’s Basketball to Begin Three-Game Home Stretch with Montreat
GREENSBORO, NC – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women’s basketball team will begin a three-game home stanza starting by hosting Montreat on Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 5 p.m. in Fleming Gymnasium.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
UNCG most recently dropped a 72-51 contest at No. 9 Virginia Tech on Monday.
The first quarter saw the most back-and-forth action between the Hokies and the Spartans with five ties and four lead changes.
The Spartans outscored the Hokies 16-14 in the third quarter.
Virginia Tech opened up the final quarter with a 13-1 run over the Spartans.
Gamble scored a new career high of 25 points in the game. She added a new career high of 12 field-goals made.
Ayanna Khalfani paced the Spartans with eight points.
Khalis Cain stood out with five boards.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
The Spartans come into Wednesday’s matchup 3-2 overall.
UNCG is undefeated at home after claiming a 61-30 win over South Carolina State, followed by another dominating win over Pfeiffer, 93-25.
Gamble is ranked ninth nationally with 16 steals and 10th nationally with a 4.00 steals per game average.
Isys Grady and Khalfani stand at second and third in The Southern Conference (SoCon) in field-goal percentages with 53.8 and 53.5, respectively.
Gamble leads the Spartans with 62 points this season, while Khalfani trails with 59 points.
Cain is the key rebounder for the Spartans so far this season with 32 boards.
The Spartans were picked to finish sixth in the 2023-24 SoCon Preseason Coaches’ Poll, trailing ETSU, Chattanooga, Mercer, Wofford and Furman and coming in front of Samford and Western Carolina.
After Grady’s efforts in the 2022-23 season, the junior was named the 2023-24 SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team.
SCOUTING THE CAVALIERS
The Cavaliers compete under the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics). Therefore, Wednesday’s game will be an exhibition match for the visiting team.
Montreat currently stands at 4-3 overall after dropping its first three matches of the season but winning the past four.
Virginia Edmondson leads the team in scoring this season with 133 points. She is also 20-for-62 from behind the arc.
Adrianna Gullette follows closely behind with 112 points and stands on top with 19 assists.
Vaniyah Petty stands out as a key rebounder for the Cavaliers this season with 60 boards.
Montreat was picked to tie for sixth out of 15 teams in the Appalachian Athletics Conference (AAC) Preseason Poll.
Edmondson was named the AAC Player of the Week last week after scoring a career high of 25 points against Tennessee Wesleyan.
The Cavaliers will also take on SoCon opponent, Western Carolina on Sunday, January 7. The squad’s meetings with the Catamounts and Spartans will be its only two matchups in the NCAA this season.
