SoCon Announces Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men’s basketball forward Mikeal Brown-Jones has been named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, announced by the league on Monday.

This is the second Spartan to earn the honor, as Keyshaun Langley earned the recognition on November 20.

The senior from North Philadelphia, Pennsylvania paced the Spartans to three-straight wins in Nassau, The Bahamas during the 2023 Baha Mar Hoops Nassau Championship, where they were crowned Champions. Brown-Jones was also named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament. The three wins extended the Spartans’ winning streak to four.

Brown-Jones averaged 18.3 points and 8.0 rebounds in paradise. He totaled four blocks, three assists, and two steals. He shot 62.1-percent in field goals, 66.7-percent in three-pointers, and 65.4-percent in free throws.

In a 76-64 win over Kansas City to open the tournament, Brown-Jones was second in the game with 22 points and tallied seven rebounds. This was the second game this season that the Spartans won by double figures. Brown-Jones then had a team-best 18 points and eight rebounds in an 88-77 win over Delaware in a semifinal game for the team’s third contest this season won by double figures. Brown-Jones concluded the tournament with a game-high 15 points in a 58-57 championship win over UIC.

The senior has scored double-figures in each game this season thus far.

Nationally, he is ranked sixth in the nation in free throw attempts (26), 25th in free throws (17), 48th in rebounds (24), and 55th in points (55). He is leading the conference in field goals, free throw attempts, and points.

UNCG (5-1) returns home for three-straight games to begin the month of December. UNCG will open the month with non-conference foe William Peace on Friday, December 1 at Fleming Gymnasium with a start time of 7:00 p.m.
