UNCG Women’s Basketball Takes Down Coastal Carolina to Stay Undefeated at Home

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women’s basketball team claimed a 65-59 victory over Coastal Carolina on Wednesday night to remain undefeated in Fleming Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
A three-pointer from the Chanticleers’ Makaila Cange put the visiting team on the board first in the contest. However, the Spartans responded with a 13-2 run to take a 13-5 lead over Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleers cut the deficit to three, 15-12, to close out the first quarter.

The remainder of the first half remained close, but the Spartans never gave up their lead and held a 24-22 advantage heading into the break. Coastal Carolina shot 39 percent in field goals to UNCG’s 31 percent in the first half. However, the Spartans were able to post six second chance points to the Chanticleers’ zero.

The third quarter went back-and-forth to start off until UNCG found its stride. The Spartans closed out the third period shooting 70 percent from the field and notching eight rebounds to outscore Coastal Carolina, 18-12. UNCG headed into the final quarter up, 42-34

The Spartans continued to maintain control to never allow Coastal Carolina to lead in the last frame. A three-pointer from Nasia Powell gave UNCG its largest lead of the game with a 15-point margin over the Chanticleers (58-43). However, Coastal Carolina was not ready to give up that easy. With the Spartans up 58-43, the Chanticleers produced a 14-2 run to come back within three (60-57).
