Although the Whirlies did lead 2-0, from there on out it was all Golden Eagles as they win 59-43 and improve to 2-0 on the season. It was a big night for Gage Lattimore. The Smith senior scored a game high 18 points and impacted both sides of the floor. He got the offense going as the Eagles went on a 12-0 first quarter run to lead 14-5 at the end of one. The Whirlies would get it to 14-10 early in the second, but Smith finished the half on a 17-8 run to lead 31-18 at the intermission. The second half started the same way as Lattimore, Bumpasss and Johnson carried the Smith offense and created turnovers on defense. Jaylon Bumpass scored 8 while Kendrick Johnson chipped in 9.
The Whirlie offense faced constant pressure while they tried to work in Faizon Brandon and Kaden Catoe who were playing football just last weekend. Brandon led the Whilrie with 13 points while Rich Goods had 7 points. Kaden Catoe scored 5 and Roderick Conyers came off the bench to score 7.
Smith improved to 2-0 on the season while Grimsley falls to 2-1.
