Southern Guilford High School is pleased to announce that Garrett Mills has been named as the new Head Football Coach of the Southern Guilford Storm. Coach Mills is a graduate of Forest Hills High School in Marshville, NC. After graduation, Coach Mills attended Wingate University where he was a starting offensive lineman for the Bulldogs. Coach Mills graduated from Wingate University with a degree in Community and Commercial Recreation and a Certification in Health and Physical Education.
Coach Mills brings 10 years of coaching experience to this position. Most recently, Coach Mills served as the Head Football Coach and Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Walkertown High School. During his tenure, Mills received 2022 2A Midstate Coach of The Year honors while leading the Wolfpack to an 8-2 record and the schools first ever home playoff game.
Prior to assuming the head coaching duties at Walkertown, Coach Mills has served in various capacities in the coaching ranks. These stops include Wingate University as a Graduate Assistant, Offensive Coordinator at Forest Hills High School, Special Teams Coordinator at Thomasville High School, and Assistant Head Coach at Page High School.
Coach Mills is highly regarded among his coaching peers and brings with him a work ethic and level of achievement that will serve our program well.
Southern Guilford High School is excited to welcome Coach Mills and his family to the Storm family. Coach Mills will officially start his teaching and coaching duties at Southern on January 2, 2024.
