UNCG Women’s Basketball Hosts Livingstone for Non-Conference Finale

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women’s basketball team will close out its non-conference slate by hosting Livingstone on Thursday, Jan. 4 at 7 p.m. in Fleming Gym.

The Spartans most recently dominated in a 78-33 victory over Converse on Friday, Dec. 29.
Three Spartans scored double figures in the game, including Jayde Gamble with 16 points, Ayanna Khalfani with 15 and Nia Howard with 10.
Gamble was one rebound shy of a double-double with her 16 points and a new career high of nine boards.
Joelle Davis led the Spartans from behind the arc, going 3-for-6 to earn a new career high of nine points.
Khalis Cain followed closely behind with eight rebounds.
Makiah Asidanya earned a career high of nine points and seven rebounds.
Nina Horvath dropped a new career high of two rebounds and two assists.
UNCG scored 40 points in the paint, while Converse had 14.
The Spartans posted 29 points off the bench to the Valkyries’ 14.
The Blue & Gold produced 25 points from turnovers.

The Spartans come into Thursday’s contest with a 10-4 overall record.
UNCG is 8-0 at home for its best home start since the 2001-02 season.
UNCG is currently ranked third in The Southern Conference (SoCon), trailing Chattanooga and ETSU, respectively.
The Spartans lead the SoCon in four statistical categories: blocks per game (4.3), field goal percentage defense (12.5), steals per game (8.7), and turnover margin (2.71).
The squad is ranked 24th nationally with a 53.6 scoring from defense.
Gamble continues to stand out with steals this season by ranking ninth nationally with 41 steals and 21st nationally with a 2.93 steals per game average.
Cain is third in the SoCon and 42nd nationally with 116 rebounds this season.
Gamble paces the Spartans with 172 points, average 12.3 points per game.
Khalfani and Isys Grady follow closely behind with 141 points, averaging 10.1.
UNCG is outscoring its opponents 926 to 751.
The Spartans were picked to finish sixth in the 2023-24 SoCon Preseason Coaches’ Poll, trailing ETSU, Chattanooga, Mercer, Wofford and Furman and coming in front of Samford and Western Carolina.
Grady was named to the 2023-24 SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team after her efforts in the 2022-23 season.

Livingstone heads to Greensboro with a 2-4 overall record and 1-3 in the CIAA.
Thursday’s contest at UNCG will be an exhibition game for Livingstone as the Blue Bears compete in NCAA Division II.
The Blue Bears most recently traveled to Lincoln University, Pa., where they defeated the Lincoln Lions, 55-43.
Kaley Woodruff and Morgan Kelson led the way for Livingstone with 11 points apiece.
Ny’Asia Green earned four steals in the contest, while Morgan Kelson collected nine boards for the team.
The Blue Bears are ranked fifth nationally in the NCAA Division II with a 21.8 three-point percentage defense.
Samiyah Briggs is second in the CIAA with a 78.9 free throw percentage.
Briggs leads the Blue Bears with 75 points, averaging 12.5 points per game.

UNCG is 2-0 in the overall series against Livingstone with both meetings coming in Greensboro. The two teams last met on Dec. 20, 2014, when the Spartans claimed a 81-77 victory over the Blue Bears.
