Andre Swanston Becomes First Black Majority Owner of Minor League Sports Team

Last week, MLS NEXT Pro announced that the Connecticut United Football Club (CT United FC) has been awarded the fifth independent MLS NEXT Pro expansion team, which is expected to join the league in 2025. Established by Connecticut Sports Group (CTSG) in 2022, founding partner Andre Swanston is making history as he becomes one of the first Black majority owners of a Minor League team, and one of very few Black owners of any professional sports team. Swanston previously made history completing the 6th largest exit of any African American CEO in history

“André has a proven track record of building transformational companies and valuing community development,” said Charles Altchek, President of MLS NEXT Pro. “Today’s announcement marks a historic milestone as André takes the helm as one of our youngest club owners and breaks barriers as one of only a few Black principal owners in U.S. sports history.”

Chairman and CEO of Swanston Labs, Swanston, AKA “Mr. Exit,” is a dynamic tech innovator and media magnate whose ability to forecast industry shifts, identify opportunities and take calculated risks, has catapulted him from $9 in his pocket to one of the only 9-figure exits by a Black American. He has frequently appeared in Bloomberg, Forbes, Fortune, Wall Street Journal, and The Hollywood Reporter, Swanston is also a former Division 1 collegiate athlete, who is now turning his passion for sports into his next winning venture.
