UNCG Men’s Basketball Extends Home Streak to Nine Behind Win Over Wofford

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men’s basketball team won its ninth game this season by double figures behind an 82-59 victory over the Wofford Terriers on Saturday at the Greensboro Coliseum.

This was the Spartans’ ninth-straight win at home, which matches the home start from the 2004-05 season.

Mikeal Brown-Jones tallied his fourth-career double-double with game-highs of 29 points and 10 rebounds. Keyshaun Langley(Southwest Guilford High School) added 16 points, while Jalen Breath chipped in 11 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UNCG started the game off with a 13-0 run, denying Wofford of a basket for the first four minutes and 35 seconds. The Spartans maintained a double-figure lead until the Terriers scored eight-straight points to cut the deficit to six, 24-18, with 9:05 left in the first half. Brown-Jones responded with two three-pointers putting the Spartans up by 12, 30-18, with 8:27 on the clock. The two teams traded baskets the rest of the way as UNCG headed to the break with an 11-point advantage, 41-30, following a layup from Brown-Jones. This was the 13th game this season leading at the half.

UNCG maintained the lead through the second half. Donovan Atwell scored five-straight points, including completing a three-point play in just over a minute of action, to put the Spartans up by 20, 62-42, with 8:49 left in the game. For the sixth time this season UNCG held a 20+ point lead over their opponents. The Spartans went on a 15-9 run to extend their lead to 26, their highest of the game, with 2:58 left on the clock. The two teams traded three pointers with less than a minute left, as UNCG claimed the 82-59 victory.

BY THE NUMBERS

Breath was second on the team with seven rebounds and had two blocks.
Kobe(Southwest Guilford HS) Langley contributed six points, seven assists, and three steals.
UNCG shot 52.7-percent from the floor. This was the fifth time this season that the Spartans shot over .500.
The Spartans outrebounded the Terriers 36-28.
UNCG outshot Wofford in field goal percentage, three-point percentage, and free throw percentage.
Wofford’s 59 points scored was a season low.

UP NEXT
UNCG will travel to Cullowhee, N.C. for a mid-week matchup against Western Carolina on Wednesday, January 24 with a start time of 7:00 p.m. The Spartans then return home to host Mercer on Saturday, January 27 at the Greensboro Coliseum with a start time of 7:00 p.m.
