*********Boys game was just packed with action and there was plenty of defense to around the Bob McAdoo Gymnasium, at Ben L. Smith High School on Wednesday night….Guys like Gage Lattimore or Kenny Miller Jr. would push Smith out front, and the Golden Eagles would have what would be considered a solid lead in the game, but every time when you looked up, the Dudley Panthers were clawing their way, right back into this game…
In the fourth quarter CJ Jones nailed deep three 3s that looked like they were coming from over by the Four Seasons Town Centre, the Jones shots were sooooo deep….Dudley was able to knock down some key free throws late in the contest, and there was a time when both teams were only shooting around 50% from the foul line, but Dudley got free throws from Jerron Blackwell and CJ Neely and the Panthers made them stick….Dudley also got a big surge in the middle from Andrew Rogers…Rogers was taking and making key field goals from around three feet from the bucket, plus Rogers got his share of free throws and blocked shots too…Rogers was just such a big boost for the Dudley Panthers in the middle…..
Another kid who has been giving Dudley real important minutes off of the bench, is Lishawn Speller…To become a good speller, you have to practice and to become a very good basketball player you have to practice for game-like conditions, and from what we have been seeing, Speller is getting his work turned in on time for Dudley….Speller was right on time for Dudley on Wednesday night…Really Dudley outlasted Smith, but the Dudley Panthers had to hit several key shots to get out of the Bob McAdoo Gym with a win, and Dudley got those key shots to go down…
Smith was again able to get very solid help from their bench with Gavin Palmore, Micah Cowan, and Justin Leak giving Ben L. Smith big minutes off of the bench…Free throws were such a big part of this matchup between the Dudley Panthers and the Smith Golden Eagles…Kenny Miller had two shots very late that could have given his Smith team the close and the game-finishers, but Miller missed his first Free Throw, and he bounced back and he made the second shot to tie the game at 43-43 and he sent this game into Overtime…..
Jaylon Bumpass had free throws for Smith that he couldn’t cash in on, and that makes it an Overtime Game, and the misses, caused us to scratch our heads and Wonder, which way is this expedtion going??? And like we were noting earlier, Lishawn Speller and Andrew Rogers were real big-time contributers for Dudley tonight…
One heck of a ballgame and worth the price of admission and MORE….Hot night at the Bob McAdoo Gym with the Smith girls stopping Dudley, and the Dudley boys taking the game home for the Panthers….***********
