Looking over Our Mount Rushmore of Sports Announcers/Sports Personalities from CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, ESPN, and WWE

Here we go with our Mount Rushmore of Sports Announcers/Sports Personalities, the tops/BEST of all-time from CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, ESPN, and WWE….

See what you think and if there needs to be any changes…..

CBS-Jim Nantz
NBC-Dick Enberg
ABC-Al Michaels
FOX-John Madden
ESPN-Chris Berman
WWE-Jim Ross

There you go and you have Jim Nantz doing the NFL, NCAA men’s basketball, the Master’s Golf Tournament and much more…Dick Enberg on NBC did college basketball with a heavy emphasis on UCLA men’s basketball early in his career, plus the NFL and much more…Al Michaels and that 1980 Winter Olympics “Miracle on Ice” call on ABC sets his tone, plus he did NFL games, MLB games and much more…John Madden needs to be up there on the Mount somewhere, and his NFL work on FOX really put that network on the map….Chris Berman was “The Man” for many years on ESPN, and not so much today, but for all the input and influence he had on that network, he has to have a spot…Jim Ross is professional wrestling announcing…With the sports entertainment industry having grown to its current super-strong financial levels, the man who made the phrase “Slobberknocker” a household term for Monday nights, and a bar room term 24/7, well Jim deserves his spot out there in the sun, high atop Mount Rushmore….

There you go, and we may come back later and talk more about these ICONS….

They got close, but did not stick….Stuart Scott, Dan Patrick, and Stephen A. Smith from ESPN…Jim Rome from the ABC sports network and CBS TV Sports Network…Formerly of ESPN radio and TV, “The Fabulous Sports Babe”/Nancy Donnellan…Jim McKay and Chris Schenkel from ABC Sports and more…Al McGuire and Billy Packer, both with NBC and CBS for college basketball….Gordon Solie from TBS with World Championship Wrestling, Georgia Championship Wrestling and also his Championship Wrestling from Florida…And we may add a few more, later on….

And of all of those guys that we selected, I think John Madden, for his overall look, would really look good up there on Mount Rushmore….His old Oakland Raiders coaching look is a hard one to top…

  1. I remember Curt Gowdy and he may have done the World Series(NBC), NFL with the Super Bowl call(NBC) and I know he did the old American Sportsman Show on ABC TV…Interesting and different show….

Some other names that got me thinking were Jack Buck, Harry Carey and Keith Olberman…I thought of Keith Olberman while I was thinking about Chris Berman…

I also remember Vin Scully doing a game show on TV, and it might have been on NBC, plus he did do the World Series and pretty sure it was on NBC, and pretty sure he had the Kirk Gibson hollbled miraclehome run call…Vin Scully also did NFL games…

Let’s add in some more potential names for the Mount Rushmore of Sports Announcers and Sports Personalities….

  2. What about Charlie Jones, the oldtimer from NBC? He did it all from football, basketball, baseball and even Track and Field. And I have to hit you guys with this one. Bob Costas. And Maybe Bryant Gumbel and James Brown from CBS NFL Shows. And for wrestling you have to put Vince McMahon up there so there will a choice to throw darts at.
One more and I am gone from here. Brent Musburger.

  3. Bob Costas to represent NBC, Roone Arledge for ABC, James Brown for CBS, Joe Buck for FOX, Robin Roberts for ESPN and John Cena for WWE. A little different but very fitting.
