Five Spartans Score Double Figures in 85-79 Win Over VMI
LEXINGTON, VA. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men’s basketball team secured an 85-79 victory over VMI on Wednesday night at Cameron Hall in The Southern Conference (SoCon) action.
Five Spartans led the charge by scoring double figures. Donovan Atwell and Mikeal Brown-Jones each registered 18 points. Keyshaun Langley had 17 points, while Jalen Breath scored 14 and Kobe Langley tallied 13 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UNCG’s first three baskets came from behind the arc, where two of them came from Donovan Atwell to give the Spartans a 9-1 lead at 18:41. The Spartans later went on a 14-point run to climb to a 19-point advantage, 26-7. In that stretch, UNCG made four more from long range. VMI closed the gap to 13 with six-straight points, but UNCG maintained the lead through the first half. The Spartans saw its first 20-point advantage with 7:43 left in the half, 35-15, and had their largest lead of 25, 48-23, with 2:07 left on the clock. The Keydets made six free throws before heading to halftime with a 19-point deficit, 48-19.
VMI came out of the locker room with a 7-2 run, cutting the deficit to 14, 50-36. The Spartans responded with an 11-3 run, including three baskets from behind the arc for a 22-point advantage, 61-39, with 14:01 remaining. The Keydets cut the deficit to single digits, 76-67, after going on a 10-1 run in just over two minutes of play. VMI continued to chip away, but UNCG maintained the advantage even though the Keydets came within five, three times in the final three minutes in the half. The Spartans made eight free throws as the clock wound down, before VMI made the last basket at the buzzer for a six-point deficit, 85-79.
BY THE NUMBERS
Three Spartans had eight rebounds each to lead the team, including Brown-Jones, Breath, and Miles Jones.
Jones matches his career-high in boards.
Keyshaun registered a team-high four assists and a game-high four steals.
UNCG had 20 points off turnovers, compared to VMI’s nine.
The Spartans outscored the Keydets in the paint, 34,-24.
VMI outmatched UNCG in fast break points, 14-4.
UNCG had 22 second chance points, while VMI had six.
