HOW IT HAPPENED
After Emma Jones reached first on an error in the bottom of the first, Kenzie Nicholson doubled to left field driving in the Gamecock’s first run of the game. Nicholson advanced to third and scored on back-to-back ground outs giving Jacksonville State a 2-0 advantage.
The Spartans came from behind to score three runs off two hits in the top of the second. Brooklynn Maxwell connected for her second hit of the day, singling down the left field line bringing Maycin Brown home from second, 2-1. Following a wild pitch, Tori Dalehite scored, and Jessie Shipley tripled to left field on a 1-2 count to give UNCG the lead, 3-2.
Jacksonville State had another multi-run inning in the bottom of the second scoring four runs off two hits and two errors, 6-3. UNCG kept the Gamecocks off the bases in all but one inning during the remainder of the game, while the Spartans stranded four throughout the final frames.
