More on this game, on the way….Listen Back now to the NWG-SWG girls game on GreensboroSports Radio…Talked to Maslyn Mosbacher, Kamryn Snyder, and Bel Varadi during our postgame report, and a great job turned in by these NWG seniors…Nice young ladies and very good Viking basketball players…

Got to feel like Northwest Guilford would like another shot at the Northern Guilford Nighthawks…NWG played NG(23-1) to a five-point game last Friday night at NWG…NWG grabbed an early lead in this game, but the SWG Cowgirls would not go away, and the C’girls took a three-point lead into halftime, and they out-scored NWG 20-8 in the second quarter…

SWG would go on to lead by as many as five points in the second half, before Northwest made their run to get back into the game, and go on and get the “W”…The “W” on Senior Night for NWG…Maslyn Mosbacher, Bel Varadi, and Kamryn Snyder all proved to be key parts of the Northwest victory, plus Sophia Apple came up big, with a couple of three’s and a total of 11 points for the game, for Northwest…Peyton Vernon came on and she was another NWG Viking who fit right into the action with her 13 points, and she was all over the place, as was Grace Henline…

NWG has developed a good steady force of complimentary players with Apple, Rumple, Vernon, Henline, and Lauren Byerly all playing key roles in the success being enjoyed by the (18-6/11-3) NWG Vikings…Northwest has the tools to make a solid run in the playoffs…Mosbacher and Varadi have the exeperience in many a tight game, that should help as they make the stretch run for the Metro 4-A Conference Tournament and then on to the 4-A Playoffs…

On this Friday Southwest Guilford battled back after being down big early and for the most part, SWG was led back by Kennedy Leggett…Leggett was making the shots, and getting the ball to hole on drives, with some dish passes and all of what she was doing, allowed the Cowgirls to hang in there and stay around and be competitive in this contest…Leggett got help from Aleesia Everett, with both Everett and Leggett paving the way for SWG’s ablility to stay in the game….

Crunch time in the County now with the Metro 4-A Conference Tournamet beginning on Monday, and finishing up on Friday, with the Championship Games, at Northern Guilford High School….

Final:Southwest Guilford boys 91, Northwest Guilford 44

More on this game, on the way…
Listen Back to the SWG-NWG game now, on GreensboroSports Radio…Talked to SWG head coach Greg Vlazy during the postgame report, and got his feelings on his teams’s win tonight vs. NWG and how his team came in ready on Friday, after a huge win at Grimsley, back on Tuesday…

Coach Vlaz said it was the worked turned in Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, that made it all work on Tuesday and Friday….Fifteen(15) made three-point shots in this game by Southwest Guilford HS…Six 3’s from Cale Lloyd, four 3’s from Corbin Wilson, and one each from Gatling, Johnson, Jones, Bratcher, and Caden Vlazny…

The SWG Cowboys were one of those teams looking to continue to make a late-season statement, and the SWG directive may have been evident all sesaon long, but the C’boys true identity is really starting to come out/show out, here late in the season…Southwest has a group of young men, going with their 1-15 players and as of late, everyone on the SWG Cowboys’ roster is making contributions to the team’s run toward the NCHSAA 4-A Playoffs…

Southwest Guilford has the athletes and Coach Vlazny tells us he wants to use those athletes to speed up the game…SWG does not have big bodies in the post, but they have Cowboys that can break out and run the court, and it all starts with their Defense…SWG has a very nice group of players that can produce with the Defense that they thrive on…

It looks like the Cowboys are playing with four long arms on each players’ body…Their hands are moving everywhere, they don’t stop…The coaches tell you to get your hands up, and for SWG it is about getting your hands out…Move those hands and Disrupt, Disrupt, Disrupt…And all of that disruption leads to points off of turnovers…

SWG foreces the turnovers, and then the Cowboys use those take-aways and they turn them into points off of take-aways and turnovers…After a while the opposing team also begins to give the ball away with unforced turnovers…They get it in their head the SWG is coming, and they end up throwing the ball away…You can hear and see these guys in your sleep…

They are coming after you, and it will all happen quick…They are on you with a double-team trap, and you end up giving the ball away…Gatling, Graves, Stevon Harrison, Alston Harrison, Wilson, Johnson, Twyman, Lloyd, Jones, Bratcher, Caden Vlazny, Hatfield, Billings-Fanning, and I think that is 13 of them right there….And they were all contributing on Friday night…

Gatling and Graves are just freshman, so it is obvious that Southwest has not yet found their best results yet…The Best is yet to come for this bunch of Cowboys…Tonight it was the three’s, the next night it might be the runners or the floaters, but one thing is for certain with this group from SWG…That is “D”….Every night for them it is going to be Defense, Defense, Defense….And they will use that Defense, and turn it into Offensive Success…

I think the brightest spot for Northwest Guilford in this game, might have been the spot on the floor from whence/where Zach Spivey was shooting…In the second half, Spivey nailed four big 3’s for NWG…His best spot was on the right side of the court, but he alsowent to left once or twice too…And his ball was going through the net…

Nobody else on the Northwest Guilford team shot the ball as well as Spivey did on this Friday night…NWG did have eight players score, none had more than Spivey…Also saw some bright moments from the NWG big post man, Etinosa Ogbeide…He has the size and the eyes to be a force in the paint…Ogbeide will just need to get more reps, and then more reps, and then more minutes…He’s like one of diamonds in the rough, and his rough stuff, could end of being good stuff for Northwest Guilford….

Confernence Tournament Time next week, and time to make some end of the season/noise for the NWG Vikings…And we were not happy to see Tanner Ballou out of the NWG lineup tonight…He was out/missing due to a bad left foot, and Tanner Ballou was wearing the injury boot, on that left foot….Could be ankle, could be a foot, we’re not sure, but he is due back on the football field in the early Summer of 2024, so he better get his foot in gear, and get that boot back to the proper medical services owner…
