UNCG Softball and Tar Heels to Face Off For Mid-Week Battle

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team begins a nine-game road stretch with an in-state foe and second ACC opponent of the season in North Carolina. The Spartans and Tar Heels will face off at Anderson Softball Field on Wednesday, February 21 with a first pitch of 4:00 p.m.

The Spartans are 5-7 overall, while the Tar Heels are 5-1 overall this season.

RUNDOWN ON THE SPARTANS

UNCG was chosen to finish first in The Southern Conference (SoCon) Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The Spartans received four first-place votes.
Senior Brooklynn Maxwell, redshirt-junior Maddie Spell, and junior Jorde Chartrand were named to the SoCon Preseason first team.
Junior Grace Loftin and sophomore Rhyann Jones were named to the SoCon Preseason second team.
UNCG won its sixth-straight SoCon Regular Season title in 2023.
The Spartans won their third SoCon Tournament Championship in route to the program’s seventh NCAA Tournament bid.
This was their third ticket to the NCAA Tournament in six years.
Maycin Brown and Blayke Batten return for their fifth year in the Blue & Gold.
UNCG added five freshmen and one transfer to the 2024 roster.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS

UNCG is coming off hosting its first tournament of the season going 3-2.
The Spartans concluded the tournament with a 6-4 loss to Ohio on Sunday.
Brooklynn Maxwell went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one home run, and one run scored.
Grace Loftin went 2-for-3 with one RBI, one run scored, and one walk.
Jessie Shipley and Samantha Beck each had a double.
RUNDOWN ON NORTH CAROLINA

North Carolina concluded the 2023 season with a 26-28 overall record and a 13-10 ACC mark.
The Tar Heels lost to No. 7 Clemson, 2-1 in eight innings during the opening round of the ACC Tournament.
The Tar Heels were voted to finish seventh in the ACC Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
North Carolina competed in the Winthrop Tournament to open the season going 4-0, before traveling down to Clearwater, Fla. for the Shriners Children’s Clearwater Invitational where they went 1-1 before the rest was canceled due to weather.
Alex Coleman is leading the team with a .682 batting average swinging 15-for-22. Coleman has tallied four RBI.
Carsyn Snead is second on the team with a .579 hitting clip going 11-for-19 at the plate.
In the circle, Bailey McCachren has made three appearances and is 2-0 with 18.0 innings tossed and a 1.17 ERA
Britton Rogers leads the pitching staff with 16 total strikeouts in 12.1 innings thrown and a 2-0 record.

UP NEXT
UNCG continues its road trip with the I-75 Tournament where the Spartans will face Army, Georgia Tech, Robert Morris, and Kennesaw State. UNCG will begin the tournament with Army on Friday, February 23 at Shirley Clements Mewborn Field in Atlanta, Georgia with a first pitch of 11:00 p.m. The Spartans will then battle host Georgia Tech at 2:00 p.m.
