Baseball Hosts Canisius for Weekend Series
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team will host Canisius for a weekend series from Friday, March 1 to Sunday, March 3 at the UNCG Baseball Stadium.
All regular season baseball home games are free admission. Concessions will not be open and outside food is permitted. Concessions will open March 22 during the Mercer series and outside food will not be permitted when concessions open. All weekday home games (not including Friday) will be Bark in the Park games, where spectators can bring their dogs.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
UNCG heads into its series against Canisius with a 5-3 overall record on the season.
The Spartans stand out nationally at 19th with 19 stolen bases this season.
The team is currently ranked 25th with 19 HBP.
Caleb Cozart was named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Player of the Week and the Perfect Game Player of the Week after hitting four home runs in the series against Fairfield.
Cozart’s six homers this season puts him at third nationally and fourth with a 0.75 home runs per game average.
In addition, Cozart is ninth in the country with 17 RBI.
Jeremy Wolf stands out nationally at sixth in the country, averaging one stolen base per game.
Julien Peissel was selected as the SoCon Pitcher of the Week after starting off on the mound in UNCG’s win over No. 1 Wake Forest.
UNCG was tabbed to finish sixth in the 2024 SoCon Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
Rob Ready was named to the Preseason All-SoCon second team.
The Spartans finished the 2023 season with a 25-34 overall record and 9-12 in SoCon play to earn the sixth spot in the SoCon Preseason Coaches’ Poll. UNCG concluded the season in the semifinal round of the SoCon Tournament, falling to No. 1 Samford, 9-5.
The Spartans welcome 22 newcomers for the 2024 season: 10 transfers and 12 freshmen.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
The Spartans dopped a 6-3 contest against Elon at the UNCG Baseball Stadium on Tuesday, Feb. 27.
With Elon up by five, the Spartans recorded their first set of runs in the fifth inning. With Cozart on first base and Wolf on third, Trey Truitt stepped up to the plate sending a home run down the left field line for three RBI, cutting the Spartans deficit to two (5-3).
Jake Ogden reached first base with walks on two occasions.
Three Spartans were hit by a pitch.
In Peissel’s second start of the season, he went 5.1 innings with five strikeouts.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GRIFFINS
Canisius comes to Greensboro with a 2-3 overall record.
The Golden Griffins most recently dropped a 10-3 midweek game at West Virginia on Wednesday, Feb. 28.
Canisius stands out nationally at fifth with a 3.40 stolen bases per game average and are 33rd with 17 stolen bases in the five games played.
The team is 32nd nationally with a 1.00 average in double plays per game.
Kenny Dodson is 27th in the country with two bunts.
Tom Peltier currently stands out at sixth nationally with a 19.12 average on strikeouts per nine innings.
Peltier was named the MAAC Pitcher of the Week this past week. Peltier came into the team’s game against Presbyterian in the bottom of the fifth, holding the Blue Hose to two runs on five hits while striking out 10 batters, one shy of his career high.
The Golden Griffins were picked third in the preseason MAAC Coaches’ poll and received two votes for first place.
Jackson Strong was named to the Preseason All-MAAC Baseball Team.

Following this weekend’s series against Canisius, the Spartans will compete in their first road contest on Tuesday, March 5 at High Point at 4 p.m. in Williard Stadium, beginning a 10-game road slate.
