UNCG Softball Hosts Four Teams for UNCG Invitational

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team continues a 10-game home stretch this weekend by hosting UMBC, Merrimack, UMass, and Charleston Southern for its UNCG Invitational from Thursday, March 7 to Sunday, March 10 at the UNCG Softball Stadium.

The Spartans are currently 11-11 overall.

The original schedule for the UNCG Invitational has been adjusted due to weather. Stay up to date with the latest information by clicking on the tournament central page.

All regular season softball home games at the UNCG Softball Stadium are free admission. Concessions will be open and outside food is not permitted. All weekday home games (not including Friday) will be Bark in the Park games, where spectators can bring their dogs.

RUNDOWN ON THE SPARTANS

UNCG was chosen to finish first in The Southern Conference (SoCon) Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The Spartans received four first-place votes.
Senior Brooklynn Maxwell, redshirt-junior Maddie Spell, and junior Jorde Chartrand were named to the SoCon Preseason first team.
Junior Grace Loftin and sophomore Rhyann Jones were named to the SoCon Preseason second team.
UNCG won its sixth-straight SoCon Regular Season title in 2023.
The Spartans won their third SoCon Tournament Championship in route to the program’s seventh NCAA Tournament bid.
This was their third ticket to the NCAA Tournament in six years.
Maycin Brown and Blayke Batten return for their fifth year in the Blue & Gold.
UNCG added five freshmen and one transfer to the 2024 roster.
Maddie Spell was named SoCon Pitcher of the Week (Feb. 26), while Anna White was named SoCon Player of the Week (Feb. 26).
Maxwell is pacing the Spartans with a .416 batting average, 20 RBI, and seven home runs.
Anna White is second on the team with 17 RBI.
Maxwell is pacing the SoCon in runs scored (24), hits (32), and at bats (77). She is third in the nation in total bases (77).
Jessie Shipley is eighth in the nation with nine doubles.
The Spartans are third in the nation in walks (92), 16th in home runs per game (1.32), 24th in double plays per game (0.55), 35th in doubles (31), 42nd in slugging percentage (0.479).
Spell has pitched 48.2 innings this season so far and struck out 21 batters. Jones is second on the pitching staff with 23 strikeouts in 38.1 innings.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS

UNCG is coming off an 8-6 eight-inning loss to Big Ten foe Minnesota on Tuesday at the UNCG Softball Stadium.
This was the 10th meeting between the two teams in program history.
Grace Loftin hit her fourth home run of the season.
Maxwell, Loftin, White, and Chartrand each had multi-hit games.
Maxwell went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a triple.
