Baseball Scores First in 9-5 Loss at Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team took a 9-5 loss in the second game of the series at No. 10 Clemson on Saturday at the Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Similar to the first game of the series on Friday, UNCG also scored first in Saturday’s game. In the opening inning, Jake Ogden flew out to center field, bringing home Trey Truitt for the 1-0 lead.

Jay Miller kept the Tigers scoreless in the first two innings, while the Spartans added another run in the top of the third. Jeremy Wolf reached first base on a fielder’s choice, sending Jacob Dilley across home plate, taking the 2-0 lead.

Clemson responded in its half of the third inning with two runs to tie the game. The Tigers added two more runs in the fourth and three in the sixth for the 7-2 lead.

The Spartans cut the deficit to four in the seventh inning after Mitchell Smith singled through the left side to bring in Aidan Brewer (7-3).

UNCG added another run in the eighth inning when Caleb Cozart doubled down the left field line, scoring Wolf (7-4).

The Tigers recorded their final runs of the game in the eighth inning for the 9-4 lead.

In the ninth inning, Trey flew out to center field to score Luke Holland. However, it wouldn’t be enough as Clemson was able to walk away with the 9-5 win.

NOTES:

Five Spartans recorded one run a apiece.
Four different Spartans each recorded one hit.
Cozart was the only Spartan to record a double in the game.
UNCG had zero errors in the game.
Grant Aycock led UNCG on the mound with two strikeouts.
