Three Spartans with Homers Sends Baseball Past South Florida, 6-4

TAMPA, Fla. – Three Spartans on the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team launched home runs to send the team past South Florida, 6-4 in the final game of the series on Sunday.

Jacob Budzik recorded his first two collegiate home runs in the game, while Trey Truitt and Caleb Cozart added one home run apiece as well.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Rob Ready with one strikeout and Bryce Archie with three strikeouts in the first two innings, kept both teams scoreless with successful pitching to start things off.

South Florida got on the board first in the game after recording three runs in the third inning. However, the Spartans quickly responded with three runs of their own in the fourth inning. First, Trey sent out his fourth home run of the season, going to right center to bounce off the scoreboard at the USF Baseball Stadium (3-1). UNCG added two more runs when Budzik launched his first collegiate homer to center field on a 1-0 count, scoring himself and Cozart to tie the game (3-3).

The Bulls regained the lead in the fourth inning off a double to left center (4-3). South Florida held the one-run advantage until the eighth inning when Cozart blasted his ninth home run of the season to left center to tie the game at four runs apiece.

The Spartans took their first lead of the game in the ninth inning after Budzik launched his second homer of day and his career to left center for the 5-4 advantage. UNCG added another run when Aidan Brewer singled to center field to score Zachary Walsh for the two-run lead (6-4).

Danny Thompson Jr. closed it out on the mound for the Spartans with two strikeouts, leaving two runners stranded in the final inning for UNCG to come away with the 6-4 victory.

NOTES:
Brewer and Budzik led the Spartans with two hits apiece.
Budzik paced the team with a career high three RBI.
GC Jarman led the Spartans in fielding with eight total putouts.
Rob Ready and Thompson Jr. recorded two strikeouts a piece on the mound.
