NC A&T Gets Past Baseball in Eleven Innings

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team dropped an eleven-inning contest to North Carolina A&T on Tuesday night at World War Memorial Stadium for the Aggies to walk-off the 3-2 win.

Both teams remained scoreless in the first three innings of action after Caleb Cozart threw two strikeouts and Avery Cain recorded four.

Cozart led off the fourth inning with his 10th home run of the season going to center field for the 1-0 lead. The Spartans added another run when Mitchell Smith singled through the left side to bring Jacob Budzik across home plate (2-0).

UNCG held the 2-0 lead until the bottom of the eighth inning when the Aggies got on the board with two runs to tie the game.

Stellar pitching from both sides pushed Tuesday’s contest into extra innings.

The Aggies were able to walk-off the game after Devon Rodriguez singled to center field to score TJ Ash(Southeast Guilford HS) for the 3-2 win in the 11th inning.

The Spartans had nine hits to the Aggies’ six.
Cozart and Smith led the Spartans with two hits apiece.
Smith paced the Spartans with seven total putouts.
Cozart, Brandon Hudson and Luke Thomas each threw two strikeouts apiece on the mound.

The Spartans will begin The Southern Conference (SoCon) schedule by hosting Mercer in a weekend series from Friday, March 22 to Sunday, March 24 at the UNCG Baseball Stadium. All regular season baseball home games are free admission. Concessions will be open and outside food will not be permitted.
