UNCG Baseball Dominates in Seven Inning Win Over Mercer

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team claimed a 13-3 win over Mercer on Sunday, ending in seven innings at the UNCG Baseball Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Mercer got on the board first in the game after recording two consecutive solo home runs in the second inning. (2-0).

The Spartans responded with one run of their own in the second inning when Matt Venuto singled to left field to score GC Jarman (2-1). UNCG was able to tie the game in the third after Jake Ogden singled up the middle, sending in Aidan Brewer (2-2).

The Bears tacked on their final run in the fourth inning to take the 3-2 advantage over the Spartans.

UNCG took its first lead of the game after scoring three runs in the fourth inning. First, Cam Murphy tripled to right center to send in Mitchell Smith (3-3). In the next at bat, Zachary Walsh flew out to center field, bringing Murphy home from third (4-3). Jeremy Wolf recorded the final run of the inning for the Spartans after reaching home for the 5-3 lead.

The Spartans’ bats were hot in the fifth inning to record a total of five runs for the 10-3 lead. UNCG added another run in the sixth inning after Venuto singled through the right side to send Ogden across home plate (11-3). The Spartans recorded their final two runs of the game for the 10-run lead over the Bears to end the contest on the seven inning run rule, 13-3.

NOTES:
Murphy led the Spartans with three runs on the day.
Venuto paced the team with three RBI.
Smith led the way on the field with seven putouts.
Jay Miller and Luke Thomas tag teamed on the mound for a combined seven strikeouts.
This is the first time since the 2019 season that UNCG has won two games in the series against Mercer
