UNCG Baseball Set for Round Two Against No. 22 N.C. State

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team will host No. 22 N.C. State on Tuesday, March 26 at 6 p.m. at the UNCG Baseball Stadium for the two team’s second meeting this season.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
The Spartans most recently opened The Southern Conference (SoCon) schedule by going 2-1 in their series against Mercer at the UNCG Baseball Stadium.
Mercer got the first win of the series on Friday, but UNCG rallied back to claim the wins on Saturday and Sunday.
The Spartans closed out the weekend with a 13-3 win over the Bears in seven innings.
This was the first time since the 2019 season that UNCG has won two games in the series against Mercer.
The last time UNCG won a seven-inning game was in the 2022 season with a 12-2 win over Wofford in the SoCon Championship to advance to the NCAA Tournament.

Caleb Cozart is leading the Spartans with 26 runs, 11 home runs and 32 RBI on the season.
Mitchell Smith stands out on the field for UNCG with 169 total putouts.
Jeremy Wolf is pacing the team with a perfect 14-for-14 on stolen bases.
Cozart was named the SoCon Player of the Week and the Perfect Game Player of the Week after hitting four home runs in the season opening series against Fairfield.
Julien Peissel was selected as the SoCon Pitcher of the Week after starting off on the mound in UNCG’s win over No. 1 Wake Forest on Tuesday, Feb. 20. Peissel is leading the team on the mound with 26 strikeouts.
UNCG was tabbed to finish sixth in the 2024 SoCon Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
Rob Ready was named to the Preseason All-SoCon second team.
The Spartans finished the 2023 season with a 25-34 overall record and 9-12 in SoCon play to earn the sixth spot in the SoCon Preseason Coaches’ Poll. UNCG concluded the season in the semifinal round of the SoCon Tournament, falling to No. 1 Samford, 9-5.
The Spartans welcome 22 newcomers for the 2024 season: 10 transfers and 12 freshmen.

The Wolfpack went 2-1 in its conference series against No. 9 Duke this past weekend in Raleigh, N.C.
N.C. State closed out the series with a 13-2 loss in seven innings on Sunday.
The Wolfpack are ranked 20th nationally with nine home runs this season and 22nd with a 2.25 home runs per game average.
The team stands out at 24th nationally with a .992 field percentage.
Alec Makarewicz is leading the Wolfpack with 28 runs and 37 RBI this season.
Makarewicz and Garrett Pennington stand out with 33 hits apiece on the season.
Sam Highfill and Dominic Fritton are leading the team on the mound with 32 strikeouts apiece.
N.C. State was picked to finish third in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) 2024 Preseason Poll.
