Day Three Results from the Southeast Guilford-Greensboro Grasshoppers Spring Break Baseball Tourmnament:You Can Listen Back to the Games on GreensboroSports Radio(Bingo, Bango, Bongo, Bengals have us saying, “I didn’t expect to see that!!!”)

Busy week at the 2024 Southeast Guilford-Greensboro Grasshoppers Spring Break Baseball Tourmnament….And that’s an understatement there…You can Listen Back to the games now at GreensboroSports Radio

Talk about a very challenging Last Day of the Tournament, on Saturday….
William Byrd(VA) 8, Western Alamance 4
Grimsley 5, Southeast Guilford 3
Championship Game:Wake Forest 9, Greensboro Day School 8
(Plus this one was a little lopsided, the score was East Chapel Hill 13, Northeast Guilford 1

That final game, the Championship Game was really something else…A 9-8 final, and what was the Greensboro Day School Bengals baseball team, doing playing in the Title Game??? There were times before the game, when I was asking myself that same question…But I have to say, the GDS Bengals baseball team, THEY BELONG….They battled all week long and Bengals’ Coach Kyle Gilmer wants his team to keep flying under the radar…They got the job done this week at the Southeast Guilford-Greensboro Grasshoppers Spring Break Baseball Tournament..Day One:Greensboro Day School 11, Western Alamance 3…Day Two:Greensboro Day School 6, Southeast Guilford 4, and then on the last night, in The Chamionship Game, the final was Wake Forest 9, Greensboro Day School 8

The GDS-Wake Forest game was tight, all night long…….Wake Forest goes up early, 3-0….GDS right back with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, and then two more runs in the bottom of the second inning…Greennsboro Day with yet even another run in the bottom of the third inning, and all five runs agains the powerhouse Wake Forest High School team…It was becoming a game of runs, and runs really do play an important part in the key baseball games…Wake Forest with a three-run run, and lead 3-0…
Greensboro Day with a 5-0 run to lead 5-3…Wake Forest with a big 6-0 run to go ahead, 9-5…And at 9-5, it appeared that the Wake Forest team had this Tournament Title all but wrapped up…

But look out, GDS has another run left in them, and the Bengals post three more runs, and go on a 3-0 run, coming in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings…With that last run by Greensboro Day, we had our final score….The score that was at 9-8…But, even at that, Greensboro Day had a shot in the bottom of the seventh inning, when the Bengals ended up leaving the bases loaded, for the third time in the contest…The Greensboro Day School Bengals left 14 men on base, and the Bengals leaving all those runners on the basepaths, they sure could have used some big plays that would have brought some of those runners home….

GDS went up 5-3 in the game, and Bengals looked to their leaders, with Bengals like Adrian Mendoza, who went 3-4/Double/BB/Run/2 RBI…Plus Garet Jones with a hit/2 Runs/SB…Garrett Chapman with one hit, a BB, and three runs….Oliver Fisher had a single, 2 BB’s, run, and 2 RBI…Jack Barg was 2-3…Nick Salas 1-3/HBP/RBI…Max McGinn with 3 BB’s…Chris Skerlak with two BB’s/Run…Cuyler Baxter was 1-4/SAC Fly…

I am telling you, I am not sure where it came from, but the Greensboro Day School Bengals were in this game…It might be an extension of their coach, Kyle Gilmer, but GDS is now baseball relevant…

For Wake Forest we mentioned earlier it was a game of runs, well Wake Forest scored three runs in the top of hte first inning, followed that with three runs in the top of the fourth inning, and three more runs in the top of sixth inning…The Wake Forest Cougars had three of those three-run runs….Wake Forest got three runs from Kyle Brazeau, with Braseau coming up with three walks, and a single…Ian Williams provided two runs for the Cougars, picking up two singles, and two runs scored…Carlos Diaz scored twice for the Cougars coming up with a single and a walk…For Wake Forest, Kellen Rogers was 2-4 with 4 RBI…It seems like Rogers was quietly the biggest spark for Wake Forest on Saturday night…Luke Taibi with a Double, a Walk, and a Run…Ethan Brittain was 1-2/2 BB’s/RBI….Stephen Crater goes 0-2/2 HBP/Run…

Greensboro Day School taking last year’s(2023) NCHSAA 4-A State Runnerup Team to the max, and that is what we had on Saturday night, at First National Bank Field…Wake Forest finished second in the state last season to TC Roberson, out of Asheville…

This was another one of those Game of the Week, Game of the Month, and Game of the Year candidates…
(Greensboro Day taking another top team to the Max tonight….This was very entertaining and many of us did not expect to see this coming out of the Bengals Baseball Camp, where they now have a good shot of “Bingo, Bango, Bongo, Bengals Baseball” going their way.)

Quite the week at the tournament, and the best game of the week came on the final night of competition…Was really impressed with all of the teams that battled the #1 seed Wake Forest to the max this week…First game of the week for Wake, East Chapel Hill battled them tooth and nail, before losing 8-1 to the Cougars…Grimsley was in a hard-fought contest with the Wake Forest Cougars, with the Whirlies falling to the Cougars, 4-2…

Nobody could top/stop the #1 seeed Wake Forest Cougars, but we saw them in some dogfights this week, and the rest of the field brought out the best in Wake Forest…

You gotta love what was going on down at First National Field this week, with the 2024 Greensboro Grasshoppers-Southeast Guilford Spring Break Baseball Tourament…Proud to have been a small part of what was happening down there this week….

NEG(7-6)…(0-3) in the tournament…
(Sam Schrieber gave the East Chapel Hill Wildcats their third excellent start from the mound this week…Schrieber worked a complete game five-inning contest, allowing 1 run, on 2 hits, with 0 BB’s/12 huge K’s/strikeouts/HBP…Schrieber had a Perfect Game going through Three Innings, then he lost the Perfect Game, and the No-Hitter, when NEG’s Noah Clark reached on a fly ball single to right field….East Chapel Hill drew 8 walks and had two HBP…Schrieber also had a Double, he drew a BB, and he scored two runs…Noah Clark had one of the two NEG Rams’ hits and scored NEG’s only run of the game…Josh Jones with the other Ram hit, and it was an RBI single.)
