UNCG Baseball Set for First SoCon Road Series at Wofford

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team will jump back into its Southern Conference (SoCon) schedule with a weekend series at Wofford from Friday, April 5 to Sunday, April 7 at Russell C. King Field in Spartanburg, S.C.

UNCG most recently dropped a 9-2 contest at No. 21 Wake Forest on Tuesday, April 2 at the David F. Couch Ballpark.
Grant Aycock and Hunter Shuey led the Spartans on the mound with two strikeouts apiece.
Mitchell Smith paced the squad with 11 total putouts, two hits and one double.
Smith and Luke Holland led the way with one RBI apiece.
As a team, the Spartans collected four walks and three HBP’s.

The Spartans head to Wofford with a 15-12 overall record and are 4-2 in conference play.
UNCG has went 2-1 in each of its two conference series so far this season.
The Spartans are currently ranked in the top-20 nationally over three categories: sacrifice bunts (22), stolen bases (63), and stolen bases per game (2.33).
Jake Ogden is pacing the Spartans with 33 hits this season.
Jeremy Wolf currently stands out at eighth nationally with a 0.70 average in stolen bases per game. In addition, he is perfect at stealing bases at 16-for-16.
Rob Ready is only one of four players in the SoCon to have pitched a complete game.
Ready was named the SoCon Pitcher of the Week after the team’s SoCon opening sereis against Mercer when he threw for a complete game with a career high nine strikeouts in game two against the Bears.
Cozart stands out at eighth nationally with 14 homers and is fifth nationally with a 0.54 home runs per game average.
Cozart was named the SoCon Player of the Week and the Perfect Game Player of the Week after hitting four home runs in the season opening series against Fairfield.
Julien Peissel was selected as the SoCon Pitcher of the Week after starting off on the mound in UNCG’s win over No. 1 Wake Forest on Tuesday, Feb. 20. Peissel is leading the team on the mound with 31 strikeouts.
UNCG was tabbed to finish sixth in the 2024 SoCon Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
Ready was named to the Preseason All-SoCon second team.
The Spartans finished the 2023 season with a 25-34 overall record and 9-12 in SoCon play to earn the sixth spot in the SoCon Preseason Coaches’ Poll. UNCG concluded the season in the semifinal round of the SoCon Tournament, falling to No. 1 Samford, 9-5.
The Spartans welcome 22 newcomers for the 2024 season: 10 transfers and 12 freshmen.
18 Spartans return from last season for UNCG.

Wofford comes into the weekend with a 19-8 overall record and is also 4-2 in the SoCon.
The Terriers most recently defeated Elon, 15-9 in Elon, N.C. on Wednesday, April 3.
Prior to the team’s win over Elon, the Terriers took a dominating 29-7 victory over Charleston Southern. This was the second time this season the Terriers tallied 29 runs, which is a now the single-game program record for Wofford.
As a team, the Terriers rank in the top-10 nationally over 11 categories: batting average (.366), hits (339), on base percentage (.482), runs (322), sacrifice bunts (28), scoring (11.9), slugging percentage (.564), stolen bases (86), stolen bases per game (3.19), triples (18), and triples per game (0.67).
Marshall Toole is currently ranked fourth nationally with 44 runs and a 1.63 runs per game average this season. Toole is also first in the country with 24 stolen bases and a 0.89 stolen bases per game average. In addition, he stands out at second nationally with five triples.
Dixon Black is 18th in the country with 41 RBI and 13th with a 1.52 RBI per game average.
Wofford was picked to finish third in the 2024 SoCon Baseball Preseason Coaches’ Poll, with one vote for first place.

UNCG leads in the overall series against Wofford at 53-33. The Spartans went 2-1 against the Terriers in the regular season series last season in Greensboro. The two team’s last meeting came in the SoCon Tournament last season with Wofford claiming the 6-1 win over UNCG, giving the Spartans their first loss of the tournament.
