UNCG Softball’s Shipley & Loftin Homer in 4-1 Win Over NC A&T

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team extended its win streak to seven behind a 4-1 win over cross-town rival North Carolina A&T at Lady Aggies Softball Complex on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Aggies saw the first base runner of the game in the bottom of the first but ended up stranding three on base as the Spartans retired the side.

UNCG tallied the first hit of the game as Brooklynn Maxwell singled to left field in the top of the third but was left on base along with Grace Loftin.

In the top of the fourth, Jorde Chartrand began the inning with a lead off double to right center. Tori Dalehite connected on a 2-2 count and singled to center field, scoring Salem Ward, who pinch ran for Chartrand, for a 1-0 lead.

UNCG’s Salem Ward retired 13 straight batters from the bottom of the first until the fifth inning, which included four-straight strikeouts to keep the Aggies scoreless.

The Spartans stranded two runners in the top of the sixth and in the bottom of the frame, the Aggies capitalized on two hits to tie the game at 1-1.

In the top of the seventh in the leadoff spot, Jessie Shipley took a 3-1 count sending the ball over the left center fence for a 2-1 advantage and her fourth home run of the season. Maxwell then reached on an error and then Grace Loftin hit a two-run blast, for her 11th homer of the season, for a 4-1 lead. Ward retired the Aggies in the bottom of the seventh with a fly out and two grounders, leaving one on base to secure her sixth win of the season in the circle.
