GREENSBORO, NC, On Sat., April 20, 2024, from 12:00pm – 8:00pm, Bender’s Tavern and Ken & Lee’s Crew will host Roastin’ for Research, the fourth annual oyster roast and live music fundraiser raising money in support of pediatric cancer research. Bender’s Tavern is located at 4517 West Market Street in Greensboro. Tickets are $50 per attendee and $15 for children 12 and under. The event will also feature a raffle and a silent auction. Raffle prizes will be drawn throughout the day, and the silent auction will conclude at 8 PM. All proceeds from the event will be donated to fund pediatric cancer research through the UNC Children’s Hospital.
Roastin’ for Research honors Ken and Lee Conrad, longtime Greensboro residents who were well known for a variety of charitable causes in the Greensboro community. Ken and Lee sadly passed away from cancer but their legacy lives on through their “Crew”; family and friends determined to land a cure for this terrible disease.
To date, Ken and Lee’s Crew has raised over $300,000 for cancer research including over $100,000 for the 2023 campaign. For the second year in a row through a partnership with the Tucker Family Foundation Ken and Lee’s Crew is well on the way of surpassing last year’s total.
Justin Conrad, son of Ken and Lee said “Mom and Dad led great lives. And while I would give anything to have them back even for a moment, I think they would be happy that our fundraising efforts go to support research that benefits children, to give those kids a shot to grow up and have a good life as well.” Conrad added “We are so thankful for our sponsors, including the Tuckers, Roane Law, Arden Homes, Forbis and Dick Funeral Services, Parks GMC and so many others for helping us land a cure for pediatric cancer! We couldn’t do it without them.”
The event will be held this Saturday April 20 at Benders Tavern, 4517 West Market Street from 12-8 PM.
