Northwest Guilford gets a Walk-Off hit from Callie Rodrigues in the bottom of the seventh inning, to score Nevaeh Scott, and that gives Northwest Guilford the victory over the WS Reagan Raiders, 3-2…Huge Game-Winning RBI hit to left field from Callie Rodrigues to win this game for the NWG Vikings, and now Northwest(26-2) as the #4 Seed from the West, moves on to play #1 South Caldwell(23-1), on Friday night at Granite Falls, just up above Hickory, off of Highway 40 West…
The Vikings scored first on Thursday night, to take a 1-0 lead, and then Reagan came right back and tied the game up at 1-1, in the top of the fourth inning…Reagan got a bunt single from their pitcher, Caycee Wilson, and with an error on the throw to first base, and then that was compounded by another NWG error, Wilson rounded the bases and scoring to tie the game at 1 a-piece…Haylea Huffines scored the first run of the game for NWG, and gave the Vikes the one-run edge, until Reagan tied it on the run by Wilson…
Leyna Hirko scored the second run of the game for Northwest Guilford and that score came in the bottom of the fourth inning, and that gave the Vikings a lead that they would hold on to, until the top of the seventh inning…NWG up 2-1 headed to the Top of the Seventh, and then with one out, the Raiders got it rolling, when Reagan got back-to-back Doubles, from Caroline Meyers and Lilah Clayman and then Myers was able to score, and tie the game up at 2-2, after a SAC Fly RBI, from the Raiders’ Ava Parsons…
Reagan had locked this game up at 2-2, but they had not locked it down…The Radiers left two runners on base there in that game-tying Top of the Seventh, but with the door still open, Northwest Guilford kicked that door down….The Vikes got a leadoff Single from Nevaeh Scott, and then NWG moved her to second base with a SAC Bunt from Torey Cagno, and it was one batter later when NWG got another key move up SAC Bunt from McKenzie Whalen, sending Scott to third base, to set up the HUGE Walk-Off Hit from Callie Rodrigues to win it for the Vikes…
NWG would get up by a run, then let Reagan off the hook, and the Raiders would be back in the game, but NWG found that door still Wide-Open in the Bottom of the Seventh Inning, and the NWG Vikings kicked that Door Down, and Scott came in to score and with her Game-Winning Run, after the Callie Rodrigues Game-Winning RBI, Northwest Guilford/NWG had the “W”…..
Northwest moving ON to face #1 West Seed South Caldwell on Friday night…Big Celebration by the Vikings at their home field tonight/Thursday, and NWG led by their senior pitcher Bel Varadi, Northwest is still in the hunt for the NCHSAA 4-A Softball Title…Can Bel Varadi go again on Friday night??? Not sure, but right now NWG is riding a crest/wave, and they need to continue to build off of that momentum, that they used to help get past WS Reagan on Thursday evening….Callie Rodrigues, a name that should ring out in the halls of Northwest Guilford HS on Friday morning…Scott scores, Rodrigues drives her in, and Varadi gets the win, and now NWG needs to DO IT AGAIN….
