Greensboro Grasshoppers Friday Night Baseball Report
brought to you by Mike Causey for North Carolina Insurance Commissioner…..

A four-run Inning will trump a three-run Inning every time, and that’s pretty much what we saw on Friday night, at First National Bank Field…

Final Score from the Friday night contest at FNB Field:
Jersey Shore BlueClaws 9, Greensboro Grasshoppers 4
WP:Samuel Aldegheri(4-3)
LP:Wilber Dotel(2-3)

BlueClaws' Line-9-11-0
Hoppers' Line- 4- 7-0

Greensboro Grasshoppers(31-23)
Jersey Shore BlueClaws(30-25)

The week-long Six-Game Series between the Hoppers and the Claws is now all tied up at 2-2…Tuesday Hoppers winners, 5-4 in 10 Innings…Wednesday night it was the Hoppers the winners again, this time 6-5 over JS…Then Thursday night the Claws took the game over winning, 5-1…Now here we are on late-night Friday/early Saturday morning, and they make it two straight wins over the Hoppers, with the Friday final at, 9-4 Jersey Shore…

Claws take it Friday 9-4, and it was the Jersey Shore four-run fifth inning that really did the Grasshoppers in, and it really helped give JS the win…

Very close battle early, with Jersey Shore jumping out in front 1-0 with Justin Crawford scoring for JS in the top of the first inning…Then the Hoppers came right back and tied it all up at 1-1, on the strenth of the Charles McAdoo home run in the bottom of the first frame…McAdoo came through to make it 1-1, going to the second frame…It was a solo home run from the Claws that gave them the lead, 2-1, in the third inning…Leandro Pineda connected shot to right field, to push the Claws back in front…

JS got another run in the top of the fourth inning to extend their lead to 3-1 over the Hoppers…Emaarion Boyd scored for the Claws, and Boyd was one of the most active Claw hitters/batters on the evening…Here come the Hoppers with a three-run Home Run to left field off of the bat of Maikol Escotto…New score at FNB Field goes, 4-3 Hoppers on top…

Just stopping to think about this now, at 12:32am on Saturday morning, but those three Hopper runs in the fourth inning, were the last runs the home team would see on the night…And you just know that Jersey Shore said we will see you at least one or two better, and the Claws turned it on, in the top of the fifth inning….Jersey Shore posted 4 runs, on 4 hits, and even left two men on base, and that goes to show you how hot the Claws got, there in that role-reversing top of the fifth inning….The BlueClaws are now the brand NewClaws, as JS takes a 7-4 lead over the Greensboro Grasshoppers, and the Claws don’t plan to be looking back…

Jersey now on top 7-4, and the Claws will add another run in the sixth and seventh innings, to reach the magic number of nine runs scored, in their Friday night contest…Jersey Shore, 9-4 over the Greensboro Grasshoppers, and let’s take a look back at what happened in the fateful fifth for the Hoppers defense/pitching staff…Jersey Shore came into the fifth down, 4-3, and by the time the Inning was cleared out, Jersey Shore would lead 7-4, over the Greensboro Grasshoppers…This is how it happened:
Top 5th
Erick Brito singles on a line drive to left fielder Hudson Head. Justin Crawford scores. Otto Kemp to 3rd. Hendry Mendez to 2nd.
JS 4,GBO 4

Emaarion Boyd singles on a line drive to right fielder Lonnie White Jr. Otto Kemp scores. Hendry Mendez to 3rd. Erick Brito to 2nd.
JS 5,GBO 4

William Bergolla singles on a line drive to left fielder Hudson Head. Hendry Mendez scores. Erick Brito scores. Emaarion Boyd to 3rd.
JS 7,GBO 4

Here is what happened in the fourth inning, to get us to that Fateful Fifth….Fourth Inning instincts from the Greensboro Grasshoppers…
Top 4th
Jersey Shore’s Zach Arnold grounds out, Hoppers’ shortstop Termarr Johnson to first baseman Maikol Escotto. Emaarion Boyd scores. 2 outs
JS 3,GBO 1

Bottom 4th
Hopppers’ Maikol Escotto homers on a fly ball to left field. Hudson Head scores. Mitch Jebb scores.
JS 3,GBO 4

After the bottom of the fourth inning, the Greensboro Grasshoppers bats went dead…After the fourth frame, the Hoppers were 2-14, with 2 BBs the rest of the game…Not the kind offense you need to stay near the BlueClaws…

On the night, the Hoppers’ bats went like this:Charles McAdoo 1-4/HR(MAC batting .333 for the season, with 8 HR/39 RBI)…Termarr Johnson 1-4…Nick Cimillo 0-3/BB…Hudson Head 1-4/Run…Mitch Jebb 1-4/Run…Lonnie White Jr. 1-4/Double…Maikol Escotto 1-4/HR…Geovanny Planchart 1-3/BB…P.J. Hilson 0-4…Lots of Hoppers going 1-4 on Friday night…

The Greensboro losing pitcher was Wilber Dotel, who worked 4 1/3 innings, giving up 7 runs, on 5 hits, with 5 BBs/2 Ks, and he served up one HR…The Hoppers bullpen gave up 2 runs on 6 hits, with 6 Ks, and just one walk…Luis Peralta, Elijah Birdsong, and Jaycob Deese from the Hoppers pen…

The top JS BlueClaw batter was Emaarion Boyd, who was 3-3/2 BBs/Run/RBI…Boyd reached on a popup bunt in the 7th inning, and he was initially called out by the home plate umpire who was looking at the Hoppers first baseman Maikol Escotto, as he made the running grab, and after conferring with the base umpire, and Jersey Shore skipper Greg Brodzinski, the call was reversed, and Boyd was awarded first base…The home plate umpire was staring right at the play, he was looking right directly at Escotto, and the call was Out…After the call reversal, Hoppers skipper Blake Butler argued to no avail that the call made by the home plate umpire was OUT, and that they should stick to the call…But the umpires stuck it to manager Butler, and he was done for the night….
Ejection:Grasshoppers manager Blake Butler ejected by HP umpire Trey Ward III…

So there you go with that night highlighted by Boyd for Jersey Shore….Also for JS, Leandro Pineda went 1-4/HR/3 RBI…William Bergolla was 2-4/BB/2 RBI…Justin Crawford goes 2-4/2 Runs…Erick Brito was 2-5/2 Runs/RBI…Otto Kemp went 1-4/2 Runs…Zack Arnold 0-4/2 RBI…

Very strong outing for the BlueClaws starting pitcher Sam Aldegheri who goes 5 innings, allowing 4 runs, on 5 hits, 1 BB and he struck out 10 Hopper batters…He did give up two HRs, but for the most part a solid night for Aldegheri on 95 pitches, with 59 going for strikes…95 pitches this early in the season, is again strong for Sam Aldegheri…From the Claws bullpen, Jack Dallas, Mason Ronan, and Gunner Mayer work four innings, and the Claws’ pen gives up No Runs, on just two hits, with 2 BBs and 4 Ks…Fourteen(14) strikeouts from the Claws pitching staff on Friday night…

So when all the dust and the fireworks smoke settled, the Six-Game Series for this week is now locked in at Two Games Each/2-2….This should be getting real good again around 6:30 on Saturday night…Greensboro Grasshoppers now at (31-23), while Jersey Shore and the Brooklyn Cyclones are both at (30-25) and 1 1/2 games back of the Hoppers in the SALLY North/South Atlantic Northern Division…Gonna get good again, come Saturday at around 6:30pm at FNB Field…
