Greensboro Grasshoppers Saturday Night Baseball Report
brought to us by Mike Causey for North Carolina Insurance Commissioner…..

The Greensboro Grasshoppers win in 11 Innings, 2-1, over the Hudson Valley Renegades, with Jack Brannigan driving home Termarr Johnson in the bottom of the 11th, as Brannigan had a ground ball single to center. that sent Johnson to the plate, with the Game-Winning Run….Brannigan, with that Game-Winning RBI…

The Hoppers, 2-1 over the Renegades on Saturday night, and the Grasshoppers have now won six games in a-row going back to last Sunday, at Winston-Salem, and overall Greensboro has won 10 of their last 11 games…Hoppers now (10-1) during their two most recent series, and they have a chance to finish off with a Sweep of the Hudson Valley Renegades, if the Hops can pull off another win on Sunday afternoon….

Hoppers now (40-26) overall and (2-0) in the Second Half of 2024…

from Saturday night at First National Bank Field:
Greensboro Grasshoppers 2, Hudson Valley Renegades 1….11 Innings
WP:Luis Peralta(4-0)
LP:Mason Vineyard((2-1)

Hoppers' Line- 2-6-0
Renegades' Line-1-5-0

Greensboro Grasshoppers(40-26/2-0)
Hudson Valley Renegades(33-34/0-2)

Eleven innings on a warm Saturday night at First National Bank Field, where Greensboro Grasshoppers’ left-hander Cy Nielson got his first-ever start as a Hopper pitcher, and got his work done quick, going just one inning, before he gave way for Hunter Barco…Barco, usually a starting pitcher, worked four innings in relief…

Strikeouts were a key in this contest, with Nielson coming up with 2 Ks, and then Barco backing him up with 7 MORE Ks/strikeouts….Alessandro Ercolani struck out 2 Renegades, then Yoldin De La Paz and Luis Peralta added 3 MORE strikeouts each on the night, and that gave the Grasshoppers pitching staff a total of 17 Ks/strikeouts for the game…

And the Renegades countered with 16 Strikeouts/Ks…It was 9 for the Renegades’ starter Ben Shields, you saw 2 Ks from reliever Matt Keating, 4 MORE Ks from Eric Reyzelman, and Hudson Valley ended their line of pitchers, with 1 strikeout from finisher, and in the end, the losing pitcher Mason Vineyard…

Seventeen Ks for the Hoppers and Sixteen Ks for the Renegades, and that was a major story of the game….You had the Hoppers with six hits on the evening…Termarr Johnson goes 1-4/BB/Game-Winning Run/SB…Jack Brannigan 2-4/Double/BB/2 RBI/Game-Winning RBI…Geovanny Planchart 2-4/Double…Luke Brown 1-4/Run…
(One highlight of the night out there on the base paths, was Termarr Johnson picking up is 11th stolen base of the season, in 12 attempts.)

Hudson Valley at the plate shows, Roc Riggio 0-1/BB/HBP…Jace Avina 1-4/BB…Omar Martinez 1-4/HR/BB…Josh Moylan 1-4…Brenny Escanio 2-4/Double…(Solid night for #9 man, Escanio.)

There wasn’t much of it, but here is how the game-scoring went…..
Bottom 3rd
Jack Brannigan doubles on a line drive to left fielder Cole Gabrielson. Luke Brown scores.
HV 0,GBO 1

Top 6th
Omar Martinez homers on a fly ball to right field.
HV 1,GBO 1

Bottom 11th
Jack Brannigan singles on a ground ball to center fielder Jace Avina. Termarr Johnson scores.
HV 1,GBO 2
(After two hours and fifty-eight minutes of baseball, Jack Brannigan ended it, and sent the Hopper Faithful Home Happy, after the Fireworks Show.)

Hoppers winning pitcher Luis Peralta goes two innings, the 10th and the 11th, and he gives up 0 runs, 0 hits, 0 BBs, and he had 3 Strikeouts…Losing Pitcher Mason Vineyard, for Hudson Valley, turned in one inning, allowing 1 run/1 hit, with 0 BB/1 K…

Again, when it all comes down to it, this Saturday night game was all about the pitching….And with plenty of strikeouts, the pitchers were out there on center stage…One very unusal sight, was the fact that we saw No Hopper Homers….A double for Brannigan, and also a double for Planchart, but that was the extent of the extra-base hits…

There you go, with our choice for Player of the Game, Jack Brannigan, winning for the Hoppers in the 11th inning, with his Game-Winning RBI, that scored Termarr Johnson, and it sent the crowd into a frenzy, as they were happy to see a Hoppers’ victory, and glad to get their Fireworks Show rolling…
