Final from 2024 COLT Baseball East Zone Tournament Championship Game at Stoner-White Stadium(Jaycee Park): Youngstown, Ohio over Greensboro Green, 8-2

Youngstown, Ohio will be representing the COLT Baseball East Zone in this year’s COLT Baseball World Series, at Marion, Illinois…..On Saturday morning, at Stoner-White Stadium, inside Jaycee Park, Youngstown, Ohio topped the Greensboro Green team, 8-2, to punch their ticket to this year’s COLT Baseball World Series….

This is one of the few times, in my memory, that the Greensboro Green team has not made it to the COLT Baseball World Series…It seems like the Greensboro team has always been on the road to the World Series, either back in the day in Lafayette, Indiana, or in recent years going to the new site, in Marion, Illinois…..

But this year, here in 2024, the team from Youngstown, Ohio is World Series-bound….

On Saturday morning, the East Zone Championship Game series was very tight early….We were still all tied up, with no score, after the first two innings…Then Youngstown, Ohio erupted for five(5) runs in the top of the fifth inning, and from that point on, there was no looking back….Youngstown, Ohio took over this game, and would not let it go….Five runs in that third inning, and then Youngtown added on three(3) more runs in the fifth inning, and Greensboro Green could not catch the boys from Ohio….

The line on today’s game looked something like this…..

             1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th
Youngstown 0 0 5 0 3 0 0
Greensboro 0 0 1 0 0 0 1

Over the first two innings, Greensboro Green starter Gavin Davis was throwing strong, but in the top of the third inning, Youngstown jumped on him for 5 runs….Davis on the day, went 2 Innings, allowing 5 runs, on 4 hits, with 2 BBs/5 Ks…Hudson Deal, Levi Ponder and others came on in relief of Davis, once he was done, and it seemed like Greensboro was coming out with a new pitcher nearly every inning, after the departure of Davis….

Bailey got the call to start for Youngstown, Ohio and he gave up 1 run, on 1 hit, 2 BBs/1 K/HBP…Youngstown had a player on their team named Ben McDonald, and he shares the same name with the former LSU and Baltimore Orioles pitcher….

For Greensboro at the plate, and I missed a couple of late at bats since I had to slip out from the game a little early, so I could attend a funeral at my Sunday church, and that is why I was wearing my Sunday-Go-to-Meeting clothes to the baseball game today….But here is what we had for the Greensboro Green….Cooper Marks 1-3/Run/SB…Hudson Deal 0-2/IBB…Noah Clark 0-1/HBP…Kaden McNeil 1-2, with a nice Bunt single…Gabe Dulan BB…Several 0-fers from the Greensboro Green lineup today, and guys were being held in check, that usually come up with real big hits….

Youngstown, Ohio at the plate:John Adamson 1-4/Run/2 RBI…Lane Ride 1-3/BB/Run…Blake Burchill 2-3/2 Doubles/2 Runs/RBI…Kyle Gilson 2-2/Run/2 RBI…Ben McDonald 1-3/Double/Run…Cody Bunger 1-3/and his pinch runner Fred Zehetner scored for him…Brody Dooberry 1-1/2 BBs/Run
