Greensboro Grasshoppers(55-34)
Asheville Tourists(37-50)
There were Nine Home Runs hit on Tuesday night, at First National Bank Field….The visiting Asheville Tourists hit FIVE(5) solo home runs…The Grasshoppers got two Solo HRs from Josiah Sightler, a two-run HR from Lonnine White Jr., and then the Walkoff Winner from Shawn Ross, when Ross hit a bases-loaded Grand Slam Home Run, to win the
game for the Hoppers in the bottom of the 11th inning….
When Ross came to the plate, in the bottom of the 11th inning, Mitch Jebb was the ghost-runner at second base, then Lonnie White Jr. got hit by a pitch, Hudson Head was intentionally walked, and that moved Jebb to third, and White Jr. to second base, with Head at first….Bases full, and an out at any bag possibility for the Asheville defense, but Shawn Ross had other ideas, as he went deep to center field, and that ball/sucker was LONG GONE…
Hoppers win the game, 9-5 over the Tourists, with Jebb, White Jr., Head, and Ross all scoring on that Grand Slam home run….Quite the finish, on Tuesday night, at First National Bank Field…
We mentioned the four Hopper Homers from the game with Sightler’s two solo shots, the two-run HR from Lonnie White Jr., and then again, the Grand Slam walkoff HR from Shawn Ross…HR #18 on the season, and a team-leading 18 HRs for Shawn Ross…Greensboro now with 143 Home Runs as a team for the season…Asheville #2 in the South Atlantic League, behind the HR-leading Hoppers, as the Tourists have homered 118 times as a team….
Solo HRs on Tuesday eveing for the Asheville Tourists’ Narbe Cruz, Luis Baez, Cam Fisher, and Ryan Johnson had two solo home runs for Asheville…
Lots, and we mean lots of home runs were hit on Tuesday night, at the First National Bank Field…Nine total homers, and they say the Solo Home Runs won’t kill you, and on this night they didn’t, but they sure kept A’ville in the game….
Eleven Innings, and the Greensboro Grasshoppers were able to surive and get the victory, and this win also put a halt to the Hoppers three-game losing streak/skid…
The game stayed very tight throughout the night, with Asheville leading early, 1-0…Then the Hoppers tied the game up, on the rundown that got Mitch Jebb out, as he broke for second base, but Termarr Johnson was on third, and when Jebb broke for second base, Johnson came flying home from third, and he scored…Game at 1-1(end of First Inning)…The Tourist go up 2-1 on the Cam Fisher solo HR in the top of fourth inning…Hoppers then proceed to go down 4-1 in this contest, with solo HRs from Luis Baez and Ryan Johnson, in the top of the fifth inning…
A’ville up 4-1, and time for the Greensboro Grasshoppers to attack….In the bottom of the fifth inning, Josiah Sightler connects on the first of his two solo HRs for the night…Hoppers cut the Tourists lead in half, and the score is now 4-2 Tourists…Sightler adds another solo HR in the bottom of the 7th, and now the Greensboro Grasshoppers are only one run behind, trailing the Tourists, 4-3…
So, the intrigue builds in a very big way, when Lonnie White Jr. blasts a two-run HR to center, in the bottom of the eighth inning, scoring White Jr. and Mitch Jebb…Hoppers up now, 5-4, and they looked primed to lock it all down and win this game, 5-4, over the Asheville Tourists…
But, the Hoppers’ dreams did not come true, as the Tourists got the Solo Home Run Show cranked up again, and A’ville tied the game, at 5-5 with the second HR of the game the Houston Astros’ farmhand, Ryan Johnson….HR #14 for the year, for Ryan Johnson…
Tied at 5-5, and headed to bonus baseball…Both teams were held in check in the 10th inning, with it all going three-up/three-down, with the exception of the ghost runners being at second base, to begin the inning…
Still at 5-5, Hoppers and Tourists, as we hit the 11th inning….Nothing doing for the A’ville Tournists in the top of the 11th inning, where the Tourists got a baserunner with a walk, but after Logan Cerny walked for A’ville, Nielson took down the Tourists 1-2-3, with a pop-up, and then back-to-back strikeouts from WP Nielson, to close out the Tourists in the top of the eleventh…
The bottom of 11, is where Shawn Ross, became the boss, with his Grand Salami, to the end the game….Some Hoppers were seen pinching themselves, after the Ross’ home run, just to be sure, we weren’t on the wrong planet…The 9-5 final in 11 innings, and for sure a Sweet home victory for the Greensboro Grasshoppers….
The Walkoff Home Run from Ross, was the game-winner….Man, what a game that one was….On the night for the Hoppers at the plate, we see Termarr Johnson going 2-4/BB/Run….Mitch Jebb 3-5/2 Runs, and Jebb with Stolen Base #25 for the season…Lonnie White Jr. 1-4/HR/2 Runs/2 RBI…Shawn Ross 1-5/Run/4 RBI…(Game Winning HR and RBI for Ross)…Josiah Sightler 2-4/2 HRs/2 Runs/2 RBI…And those are you Hopper hitters right there…Hoppers walked 3 times in the game, and they struck out 13 times…A’ville struck out 16 times and the Tourists drew five walks…
Greensboro Grasshoppers winning pitcher Cy Nielson worked the 10th and 11th innings to get the victory…Nielson with 0 runs/0 hits, and 1 BB/4 Ks…Hoppers’ starter Patrick Reilly worked five innings, giving up 4 runs, on 5 hits with 2 BBs/5 Ks, and he gave up four solo Home Runs…Reliever Julian Bosnic struck out two Tourist batters, while Valentin Linares took down five Tourists batters by way, of the K….
Big and Wild Walkoff Win for the Greensboro Grasshoppers on Tuesday night, and still scratching my head about the Tourists intentionally walking Hudson Head in the bottom of the 11th inning, and A’ville gets Shawn Ross, who was tied for the Hoppers team lead in Home Runs, with 17…And now Ross has 18 HRs, and 43 RBI, after his game-winning Grand Slam Walkoff Winner….
On another note, not a bad start at all by A’ville’s Jackson Nezuh…This was the first start for Nezuh at the High A level, yes his first start for the Tourists…Nezuh went (7-4), with an ERA of 4.41, and he walked 32, and struck out 105 batters, in his 18 games, with 11 starts for the Fayetteville Woodpeckers…On Tuesday night, Nezuh worked 4 2/3s innings, where he gave up 2 runs, on 4 hits, with 2 BBs/6 Ks, and he gave up a solo HR to the Hoppers’ Josiah Sightler….
