FEDEXCUP NO.12 BEN AN, FEDEXCUP NO.13 RUSSELL HENLEY JOIN WYNDHAM FIELD
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The golfers who tied for second at last year’s Wyndham Championship, FedExCup No. 12 Ben An and FedExCup No. 13 Russell Henley, will play the Wyndham Championship, the tournament announced today. The 85th annual Wyndham Championship will take place Aug. 8-11, 2024, at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.
These players join FedExCup No. 9 Sungjae Im, FedEx Cup No. 14 Akshay Bhatia and defending champion Lucas Glover along with past champions Kevin Kisner, Webb Simpson and Brandt Snedeker in the field.
Currently ranked 12th in the Official World Golf Rankings, Henley’s last four Wyndham Championship finishes are tied for ninth, tied for seventh, tied for fifth and tied for second last year. If that trend continues, he could win the tournament in his eighth appearance. Henley finished fifth at last week’s Open Championship at Royal Troon in Scotland; earlier this season, he tied for seventh at the U.S. Open. The University of Georgia alumnus represented the United States in the 2011 Walker Cup and the 2010 and ‘11 Arnold Palmer Cup. He is one of 118 AJGA Wyndham Invitational presented by Odyssey alumni to reach the PGA TOUR.
An, currently 32nd in the Official World Golf Rankings, will represent South Korea in the Olympics Games in Paris next week; it is his second Olympic appearance. He finished tied for 13th at last week’s Open Championship in Scotland. Earlier this season, he finished third at the Wells Fargo Championship and lost in a playoff at the Sony Open in Hawaii. An will make his sixth Wyndham Championship appearance this summer; in addition to his runner-up finish last year, he finished third in 2019. An also played at Sedgefield as a junior golfer – he played the AJGA Wyndham Invitational in 2007, ’08 and ’09. The last two were played at Sedgefield. An represented the international team in the 2019 presidents cup and has three international wins, but he is still looking for his first PGA TOUR win.
