Final from Wednesday afternoon at First National Bank Field:
Rome Emperors 4, Greensboro Grasshoppers 1
WP:Jhancarlos Lara(1-2)
LP:Derek Diamond(5-4)
SV:Riley Frey(1)
Emperors' Line-4-9-1 Hoppers' Line- 1-2-1
Greensboro Grasshoppers(60-43/21-17)
Rome Emperors(49-51/13-23)
The Rome Emperors starting pitcher pretty much had this game on ice from the get-go today at FNB Field…Jhancarlos Lara, was a Night-Mara, as he took down 12 Hopper batters by way of the K, and he tossed NO-HIT baseball over his six innings of work, there on the mound…
Lara was nearly untouchable, with the only exceptions being Luke Brown, who drew a Walk vs. Lara, and there was Mitch Jebb who reached first base due to an Error by Rome Emperor second baseman Carlos Arroyo…Just two Hoppers got a sniff of first base while Lara was in the game…
He was a like a pitching Night-Mara, that was Jhancarlos Mara, today out there on the bump, at First National Bank Field…The Hoppers did pick up a couple of hits vs. the Rome reliever, Riley Frey…Mitch Jebb laid down a perfect bunt in the 7th inning, and Lonnie White Jr. connected for a solo Home Run in the bottom of the 8th inning…
Here is the Hoppers offense for the day, or the lack thereof, and credit the Rome two-man pitching staff of Mara and Frey for the Grasshoppers lack of success in this Mid-Week Matinee…
Grasshoppers offense goes Lonnie White Jr. 1-3/HR…Mitch Jebb 1-4/Bunt Single…Luke Brown 0-2/BB…..That was the extent of the Hoppers offense right there, and again credit to Mara and Frey from Rome, for the slow day on Offense for the Hoppers…
Greensboro got that Lonnie White Jr. home run, and Rome came up with two home runs, and both of them were solo HRs…Drew Compton homered for Rome in the first inning, and then Carlos Arroyo matched Compton in the third inning, when Arroyo went LONG to left field…Compton went 3-4/HR/Double/Run/2 RBI…Ethan Workinger went 1-4/Double/Run…Jace Grady was 1-4/RBI…Kevin Kilpatrick Jr. 1-4/Run…Justin Janas was 1-4…Nick Ward goes 1-4…And Arroyo went 1-3/HR/BB…7 of the 9 Emperors hit safely in this game…
The Hoppers only had to use two pitchers…The starter and losing pitcher was Derek Diamond…He went five innings, giving up 3 runs on 7 hits, with 0 BB/4 Ks…And Diamond gave up the two Rome HRs…The Hoppers other hurler from Wednesday’s game, Alessandro Ercolani worked four innings, allowing 1 run, on 2 hits, with 1 BB/7 Ks…Ercolani was about as good as a starter on Wednesday…
Riley Frey for Rome in relief goes three innings, giving up the one Hopper run on 2 hits, with 0 BBs/6 Ks…In reality the Wednesday Matinee Game was ALL about pitching…Both teams only used TWO pitchers on the day…FOUR total throwers in this contest….
Biggest impact on this game??? It had to be the NO-HIT ball, and the 12 strikeouts from the Rome Emperors starting pitcher, the Night-Mara, Mr. Yhancarlos Lara…And that’s the way it was Ladies and Gentlemen…
