Greensboro Grasshoppers Saturday Night Baseball Report
brought to us by Mike Causey for North Carolina Insurance Commissioner…..

Crazy finish at First National Bank Field in Game Two of the Saturday Doubleheader…
Final Score:Greensboro Grasshoppers 2, Rome Emperors 1…8 Innings
WP:Landon Tomkins(1-0)
LP:Ryan Bourassa(2-2)

Hoppers' Line- 2-3-0
Emperors' Line-1-3-0

Greensboro Grasshoppers(62-44/23-18)
Rome Emeperors(50-53/14-25)

Was a crazy finish, as the Hoppers took Game Two, backed by the Game-Winning RBI Walk-Off single from Kalae Harrison…Game-Winning Run scored by Josiah Sightler(Sergio Campana pinch runner)…Ghost-Runner Mitch Jebb scored from third to tie the game up at 1-1…We called the lookout on our broadcast, saying be careful because the current Rome pitcher, Ryan Bourassa, was known to throw a Wild Pitch or two, and that is exactly what he did, a Wild Pitch from Bourassa allowed Jebb to come in from third base with that tying run….Then Josiah Sightler draws a Walk, it was Maikol Escotto with a Single, then comes the big Kalae Harrison base hit Single to right field, scoring Josiah Sightler(Sergio Campana came on to run for Sightler) from second base, and the Miracle of the Moment was happening with Two Outs on the board against the Hoppers…

Just a great way to win it all, and before that hit, Kalae Harrison was 0-6 during the Daily Double/Doubleheader….Like we were saying upstairs, “Let’s Hear It For Harrison, Let’s Hear It For Harrison, Let’s Hear It For Harrison”…..Plus Hoppers Win, Hoppers Win, Hoppers Win, Hoppers Win Again….

Two scheduled 7-inning games and both games end up going 8 Innings each….In Game Two, the Hoppers could just not get to the Rome Emperors’ starting pitcher, Mitch Farris…The former Wingate Bulldog, was a true Bulldog out there on the mound for Rome…Their lefty gave up No Runs, on 1 Hit, with 1 Walk, and he struck out 12 Hoppers over his Seven Innings of work..

This guy Mitch Farris was Crazy-Good, and if you take Farris and put him together with the Wednesday winner from Rome, Yahncarlos Lara, then Rome becomes a very tough playoff team…Farris with 12 Ks in his seven innings on Saturday, and Lara with 12 Ks over his 6 innings back on Wednesday…Two very tough ones there, Farris and Lara…

Over the first seven innings on Saturday night, there was no scoring by either team…Then Rome scored their go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning, when Landon Tomkins walked Nick Ward, to bringing the Emperors’ Adam Zebrowski to plate on this Bases-Loaded Walk…Way too many walks by the Hoppers in this Game Two…Rome got Zebrowski rolling when he was Hit by a Pitch, then E.J. Exposito reached on a fielder’s choice, Justin Janas walked, and the Nick Ward picked up the RBI for scoring Zebrowski on Ward’s Bases-Loaded Walk…

1-0 Rome going to the bottom of the eighth inning, and that’s where Hooper Heroics Hit Home…1-0 Rome after 7 1/2 frames, and then the Hoppers work their magic…Mitch Jebb, Josiah Sightler, Maikol Escotto, and Kalae Harrison all factoring in on that “Fantastic Finish”…

Hoppers at the plate on the night:Mitch Jebb 1-4/Bunt Single/Ghost-Runner run as the Game-Tying run scored…Josiah Sightler 0-2/BB/Scored the Game-Winning Run(Sergio Campana runner)…Maikol Escotto 1-3…Kalae Harrison 1-3/Game-Winning Walk-Off RBI single…Not much Hoppers hitting succes vs. Rome starter, Mitch Farris…

Rome batters/hitters:Drew Compton 1-3/BB…Adam Zebrowski 0-3/HBP/Run…P.J. Exposito 1-4/Triple…Justin Janas 0-2/BB/HBP…Nick Ward 0-2/2 BB/RBI…Kade Kern 1-4…Tim Borden II 0-1/2 BBs…

Hoppers’ pitchers, McMillan, Garcia, Birdsong, and Tomkins walked 7 Rome batters and struck out 8 from Rome….Rome with Farris and Bourassa walked just 2 Hoppers and they struck out 13 Hopper batters…The pitching was The Game, 1-7 innings, and then in the eighth inning, the Gate City, opened the Gates…

Hoppers take it, 2-1 in Eight Innings over the Rome Emperors….

Rome Emperors(50-52/14-24)

Three-run Home Run by Kade Kern wins it for the Rome Emperors, with Ghost-Runner E.J. Exposito scoring, Carlos Arroyo walked and scored, and that HR from Kern was the Winner…..

Four runs in the first inning by the Emperors got things moving, then they got three more runs in the eighth, and that got Rome rolling…

The Greensboro Grasshoppers posted their four runs in the Bottom of the Fourth Inning, with Home Runs from Hudson Head, his was solo shot, and then there was the Two-Run homer off the bat of Josiah Sightler, his 13th of the young season…Scoring were Head, Sightler, Omar Alfonzo, and Geovanny Planchart….Head’s homer was his 11th of the year…Maikol Escotto led the Hopper hitters, going 2-3…
