UNCG Women’s Soccer Opens Season at UNCW
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women’s soccer team begins its 2024 slate with a road battle against non-conference foe UNC Wilmington on Sunday, August 18 with a start time of 7:00 p.m. at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

SERIES HISTORY
The two teams last faced off on September 11, 2022, when the Seahawks defeated the Spartans in Greensboro, 5-1.
This will be the seventh meeting in program history between the two teams, where the series is tied 3-3.
ABOUT THE SPARTANS
This will be Head Coach Stefani Workman’s first year at the helm with the Spartans, but eighth year with the Blue & Gold.
UNCG finished 7-9-3 overall last season and 4-4-1 in The Southern Conference (SoCon).
The Spartans were voted to finish seventh in the 2024 SoCon Preseason Coaches Poll.
UNCG is returning Taylor Mentzer, who tied for first in goals scored last season. She scored a career-best five goals.
Also returning is Haydan Erck, who led the Spartans with three assists.
In net, Emma Malone started and played in 17 games last season and had 1.42 goals against average. Over her two years with the Spartans, she averages 1.322 goals against.
The Spartans added six freshmen and one graduate transfer to the 2024 roster.
SCOUTING UNCW
The Seahawks concluded the 2023 season 5-9-3 overall and 4-5-3 in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA).
The 2023 squad had seven shutouts, its most since the 2019 season.
Returners Kayla Burroughs and Viktoria Hankova earned All-CAA accolades at the conclusion of last season.
UNCW was voted to finish eighth in the 2024 CAA Preseason Poll.
Burroughs earned Preseason All-CAA Honorable Mention.
UNCW defeated Charlotte, 2-1, on Thursday in its season opener behind goals from Taylor O’Brien and Ayla Vaneus.
In net, Morgan Hobbs had five saves with just one goal against.
