Greensboro Grasshoppers Wednesday Night Baseball Report
from Mike Causey for NC Insurance Commissioner…..

from Wednesday night at First National Bank Field:
Asheville Tourists 5, Greensboro Grasshoppers 3
WP:Edinson Batista(6-5)
LP:Scott Randall(2-3)
SV:Layne Henderson(2)

Tourists' Line-5-11-2
Hoppers' Line- 3- 4-1

Greensboro Grasshoppers(63-51/24-25)
Asheville Tourists(48-66/2-30)

Hoppers fall to the Tourists, but the Grasshoppers got an outstanding performance from relief pitcher, Garrett McMillan, who came on for early and middle relief work…McMillan went four super-strong innings, allowing 0 Runs, on 2 Hits, with 0 BBs/7 Ks…As a pitching staff in this 5-3 Hops’ loss, the Hopper hurlers walked just one Tourist, and struck out 17 Asheville Tourists…Asheville wrapped 11 total hits around those 17 Ks, and they walked away with the win…

McMillan and others including Landon Tomkins and Valentin Linares, all worked together to take 13 of the Tourists 17 batters, that went down by way of the K….

At the plate, the Grasshoppers could only come up with four hits, and it was the second straight night where it was just four hits for the Grasshoppers….Tuesday night, Omar Alfonzo had half of the Hoppers hits, and then on Wednesday, it was Greensboro’s Mitch Jebb with half of the Hoppers four hits, with Jebb going 2-4, and he had a beautiful bunt, on the left side of the infield grass…Jebb also stole two bases, and that now gives him 35 SBs on the season, vs. 38 RBI, and with his run scored, Jebb has now scored 67 runs in 2024…If you had to name a Hoppers Position Player MVP, Jebb would be a very solid candidate…

The Hoppers P.J. Hilson went 1-4/Double/Run…Greensboro Josiah Sightler goes 1-3/BB…Lonnie White was 0-3/BB/Run…Termarr Johnson 0-3/RBI…Shawn Ross 0-2/BB…Omar Alonzo 0-3/BB…The Hoppers with 4 walks to go along with their four hits, and the Grashoppers struck out 12 times, as a team…

Four Asheville Tourists with 2 hits each…Walker Janek, a 2024 first round draft pick for the Houston Astros, out of Sam Houston State, went 2-5/Double/Run/RBI…Kenny Gomez was 2-4/2 Runs/RBI…Garrett Guillemette goes 2-3/RBI…Narbe Cruz was 2-5/RBI…

The Hoppers with a run in the second inning, another run in third inning, and then the home team added a final run, in the bottom of the seventh inning….But, for the most part, the Asheville pitchers, Edinson Batista, Wilmy Sanchez, Jeremy Molero, and Layne Henderson, they just kept the Hoppers handcuffed most of the night….Just have not been scoring nearly enough runs, and got to find the hits that will be bringing the boys home…
