Tommy Green, Glenn High School’s new head coach, picked up his first win Friday night as Glenn defeated rival Ledford 27-6. Green, who was installed as the new head over the summer, was drenched with a Gatorade bath as his players surrounded him as time expired.

Glenn running backs Joel Hayes rushed for 97 yards and three touchdowns and his teammate Craig McGee rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. The Glenn defense created two turnovers and held Ledford to just 85 yards of rushing.

Ledford got the scoring started with a one-yard quarterback sneak from Kaison Phillips to make it 6-0. But Glenn answered right back with a 79 yard drive that lasted over five minutes when Craig McGee busted through the middle for a 13 yard touchdown run. Ledfords next drive was stopped when Panthers quarterback Kaison Phillips was intercepted at the 10 yard line and 5 plays later, Joel Hayes dashed 30 yards for his first touchdown of the night to make it 14-6. Then right before half, as Ledford was trying to run the two-minute drill, Phillips was stripped from behind and Glenn picked the ball up and returned it all the way to the Ledford 5 yard line with just 1.4 seconds left until halftime. With time to only run one play or kick a field goal, coach Green used Hays in the wild cat and Hays rushed to his left and snuck just inside the pylon as time expired to give Glenn a 21-6 halftime lead.

Joel Hays would score again on a 24 yard touchdown run to finish the scoring at 27-6. Glenn rushed for 173 yards. Glenn quarterback Brady Robinson threw for 126 yards on 13 of 21 passing. Ledford was held to just 10 first downs and 191 total yards.

It might not have been the cleanest game in the world, but for coach Green, its a 27-6 win he won’t soon forget.
