On Wednesday night at First National Bank Field, the Greensboro Grasshoppers’ starting pitcher Carlson Reed took the “Hurler’s Creed”, and by the time he was finished, Reed nearly had himself a Perfect Game…Over 6 1/3 Innings, the Greensboro Grasshoppers’ Carlson Reed gave the Bowling Green Hot Rods NOTHING…Nada, not a thing, nobody could get on base vs. Reed…He threw PERFECT BASEBALL…Haven’t seen a gem like his in quite a while..

For 6 1/3 Innings, no one from the Bowling Green Hot Rods baseball team reached base….For the BG Hot Rods vs. Reed it was Three-Up, Three-Down in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and then one more batter was sent down to begin the Top of the Seventh Inning…Reed struck out five Hot Rods, he got 8 Hot Rods to fly out, and induced 6 ground balls, for ground outs…

Reed was rolling Pefect retiring the first 19 batters he faced…19-up, and 19-down, for the Bowling Green Hot Rods, vs. the Greensboro Grasshoppers right-handed pitcher, Carlson Reed…

Then the second batter Reed faced in the Top of the Seventh Inning connected…He really connected, and there went the Perfect Game, the No-Hit bid, and the Shoutout, all in one at-bat…The BG Hot Rods’ Colton Ledbetter smacked a fastball to deep left field, and Ledbetter could do no better, he hit a Solo Home Run…His 16th HR of the season, and what had been a Greensboro Grasshoppers’ 1-0 lead on the strength of a solo homer from Omar Alfonzo, it quickly became a 1-1 game, with Ledbetter’s belt that went LONG GONE…

What a game from Carlson Reed…We must plead, that Reed gets pops he deserves…That young man threw a “Whale of a Ballgame”….It was 6 1/3 Innings of Perfect Baseball, and WOW!!!!!, that was something….

Carlson Reed had to heed his coaches call, and he left the game, with things tied up at 1-1, after he served up the homer to Ledbetter….Carlos Jimenez came on, and worked up until the 9th innnig, when Valentin Linarez took over and closed the contest out, by striking out the Hot Rods side, 1-2-3 in the last frame of the game…

Reed, Jimenez, and Linares combined to toss a One-Hitter for the Greensboro Grasshoppers…The HR by Ledbetter was the only BG Hot Rod hit in the game, and the only other batter to reach base, was the Rods’ Raudelis Martinez, who drew a walk, vs. Jimenez…Those three Hopper pitchers, and especially Reed, were really on their game on Wednesday night…A near Perfect Game, then they end up with a One-Hitter, and the most important thing of all, Hoppers Win Again, at First National Bank Field….

Some kind of game, and some kind of night right there, and lest we forget, the Hoppers got a real big hit from Shawn Ross, to win the game on Ross’ solo Home Run in the bottom of the eighth inning…Solo HR from Omar Alfonzo, to let the Hoppers ride their 1-0 lead most of the way, and then the solo Home Run from Shawn Ross, in the eighth, to win it….Game-Winning HR from Ross, was his 23rd HR of the season, and his RBI total went to 57…

Hoppers win it and for Reed it was 6 1/3 innings of work, allowing 1 Run, on 1 Hit, with 0 BBs, and 5 Ks…And the one HR from Colton Ledbetter spoiled Reed’s near record-breaking night….We noted the Hot Rods’ key hit and their one walk, and for the Hoppers’ hitters it was:
Jack Brannigan 1-3…Kalae Harrison 1-1…Mitch Jebb 0-3/SAC Bunt…Shawn Ross 1-4/HR/Run/RBI…Omar Alfonzo 2-3/HR/Double/BB/Run/RBI…Lonnie White Jr. 1-4…Geovanny Planchart 2-2/BB…

Hot Rods’ losing pitcher Seth Chavez worked two innings, giving up 1 run, on 2 hits, with 1 BB/2 Ks, and he gave up the the Game-Winning HR to Shawn Ross…

That’s about the way it was…Series now tied at 1-1, with the series ready to continue/resume on Thursday night at First National Bank Field…
