Men’s Soccer Scores Twice and Shuts Out Longwood
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men’s soccer team earned a 2-0 win over the Longwood Lancers on Tuesday night at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.

In goal for the Spartans, redshirt sophomore Seth Wilson turned aside three shots for his third clean sheet of the season and the fifth of his college career.

Senior midfielder Jack Birch and sophomore forward Enzo Dovlo scored the first and second goals for UNCG, respectively.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Spartans scored their first goal in the eighth minute of Tuesday’s contest. On UNCG’s second corner kick of the game, senior midfielder Yoshiya Okawa skipped the ball across the pitch to the top of the 18-yard box. Birch then fired it into the lower-left corner for his first goal of the season. Then in the 28th minute, Dovlo tapped in a shot near the right post for his team-leading fourth goal of the season. Dovlo got on the board after receiving a pass from junior forward Konstantinos Georgallides at the left post.

UNCG dominated Longwood in the first half, outshooting the Lancers, 11-3, while also carrying a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks.

The second half saw Georgallides flirt with scoring his first goal of the season when he hit the crossbar off a pass from Arnaud Tattevin in the 67th minute. The Lancers went on to hold the Spartans scoreless in the second half, but UNCG walked away with a 2-0 victory.

The Spartans continued to dominate in the second 45 minutes, outshooting the Lancers 10-4 for a 21-7 advantage in the match. Additionally, UNCG won the battle for corner kicks 8-1 after having five opposed to Longwood’s one in the second half.

Women’s Golf Places Third at Golfweek Fall Challenge, Lauture Finishes Tied for Third
PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women’s golf team finished third in the Golfweek Fall Challenge at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawleys Island, South Carolina, on Tuesday.

UNCG freshman Sophie Lauture concluded her first tournament competing at the collegiate level in a tie for third. She opened the tournament at even par (71) on Sunday before shooting a six-under par (65) on Monday and one-over-par (72) on Tuesday to finish five-under-par (208).

The team set a single-round record for the course and the UNCG program as a whole on Monday. UNCG shot 13-under-par (271) in the second round, breaking the previous course record of 277 set by Campbell in 2018. Additionally, it set a school record for the Spartans with the previous single-round record for the team (281) coming last fall at the Elon Women’s Invitational.

TEAM
UNCG jumped from tied for ninth on Sunday, when they were 13-over-par (297), to alone at third on Monday following a historic 13-under-par (271) team effort.
The Spartans held third place on Tuesday with an eight-over-par (292) showing.
Finishing eight-over-par in the tournament, the Spartans finished five strokes behind UNC Wilmington (855) and 10 behind tournament-winner Campbell (850).
UNCG finished the tournament third in terms of total birdies (39) and fifth for pars (173).

INDIVIDUAL
Competing in her first collegiate tournament, Lauture tied for third at five-under-par (208). She logged her best round on Monday, shooting a six-under-par (65). She finished tied for sixth with 39 pars and tied for ninth with 10 birdies.
Sophomore Elle Burnette shot an even par (71) on Tuesday to finish at one-under-par (212) and tied for 11th. She posted rounds of 74-67-72 from Sunday to Tuesday.
Senior Ava Romfo tied for 26th after finishing the tournament at six-over-par (219). She shot a 77 on Sunday, 70 on Monday and 72 to close it out on Tuesday.
Senior Grace Holcomb and sophomore Kasey McIlvaine both finished in a tie for 45th at 12-over-par (225). Holcomb posted rounds of 75-73-77 while McIlvaine put up 78-69-78 in the three-day tournament.

UNCG Men’s Golf Claims First Place at Bryan National; Hernandez Wins First Collegiate Tournament

BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men’s golf team claimed first place at the Bryan National Collegiate on Tuesday at Bryan Park in Browns Summit, North Carolina.

Sophomore Kelvin Hernandez notched his first collegiate win at the three-day tournament behind an eight-under-par (208).

Tuesday’s win marks the second consecutive year the Spartans have earned the first-place title at the Bryan National Collegiate.

TEAM

UNCG carded a 10-under-par (854) over the three-round tournament.
The Spartans’ best score of the tournament came in round one with a nine-under-par (279).
Delaware finished runner-up at the tournament with an eight-under-par (856), coming close with UNCG on the back nine Tuesday.
Boston College was the last team to finish under-par, claiming third place with an overall score of two-under-par (862).

INDIVIDUAL

Hernandez carded rounds of 68-69-71 over the three rounds.
B.J. Boyce followed in behind Hernandez, finishing in a tie for eighth place behind a three-under-par (213).
Boyce achieved his best score of the tournament in the first round with a six-under-par (66).
Colin Dutton, Jake Lewis and Jack Marcotte all finished in a tie for 15th place after recording a one-over-par (217) in the tournament.
Lewis moved up 15 positions from his previous placing after round two on Monday. The freshman recorded a three-under-par (69) in the final round.
Keenan Royalty finished the three-round tournament in a tie for 22nd place with a four-over-par (220).
Andrew Graham and Liam Percy came just behind Royalty to claim a five-over-par (221) to finish tied for 26th place.
In his freshman debut, Will Guidry rounded out the scorecard for UNCG in a tie for 51st place with a 12-over-par (228).
