GREENSBORO, N.C. – Opening their season competing at the Elite Rugby 7’s, the Guilford College rugby team placed third at Bryan Park on Saturday.

Guilford finished 1-1-1 on the day, defeating Elon University before breaking even with Warren Wilson College and falling to UNC Chapel Hill.

Elon University- W, 37-0
A very quick start, with a try and conversion kick by Zoe Tate (Laytonsville, Md.). After that the Quakers kept it rolling with a hat trick by Jasmine Cartwright (Kalispell, Mont.). Jaden Gary (Charlotte, N.C.) also touched down for a couple of tries. Final score 37-0

Warren Wilson College- T, 17-17
Game two started off slow, with two tries by Warren Wilson putting them ahead 10-0. However, Gary found a way to break free and touch one down. Warren Wilson countered with a third try and conversion making the score 17-5, but the Quakers did not count themselves out. Tate broke through the defense line and brought us back 17-10. Down seven in the final play of the game Cartwright battled her way through and offloaded to Gary who scored right between the uprights. That left it up to Tate who nailed the conversion kick, final score 17-17.

UNC Chapel Hill- L, 29-0
At the end of pool play, the Quakers ended up first in Pool A. This bumped them into a semi-final game against UNC Chapel Hill. UNC brought the heat, out running the Quakers 29-0.

Guilford hits the field next for the Bleed Crimson 7’s, a match home on September 28th, kickoff at 11 AM.
