Renowned news anchor Rosanna Lockwood this month joined Al Arabiya English to host the new daily show, “Global News Today (GNT) with Rosanna Lockwood.”

On air weekdays at 18:30 GMT, Lockwood’s show delivers in-depth global news coverage, featuring expert interviews, analysis, and compelling discussions on the world’s most pressing issues.

In an exclusive interview British golfing star, Ryder Cup legend and LIV Golf Captain Ian Poulter joined Lockwood on Al Arabiya English.

When asked about the ongoing controversy surrounding LIV Golf and the difficulties players face in qualifying for Majors and The Ryder Cup Poulter said:

‘The rules that have been set in place are difficult – there’s no compromise. I think everyone is aware that players need to play their minimum amount on the European tour to be able to be eligible to play. It’s difficult for me personally – I find myself in a tricky position, where I’m not a member, and I obviously can’t become eligible to be part of a team or even help out as a Vice Captain or Captain unless I do become a member again. It’s not the best scenario, but it’s one that the tour is sticking to.’

Lockwood asked:

You are one of the greats Ian…do you ever see yourself as being able to become Europe Ryder Cup Captain, is that still something you want to achieve?

Poulter said:

‘It’s been a huge part of my golfing life, some of the proudest moments of my career. I’m hopeful one day there’s a sense of coming together that would enable the likes of myself… the opportunity to be able to become Captain. Let’s see what happens, there’s going to need to be some compromise. I’m hopeful one day we’ll see it.’

Ahead of the PGA Championship at Wentworth Golf Club in Surrey this week Poulter said other than his teammates there isn’t much he misses about playing on the PGA World Tour

Lockwood asked:

What is it about the DP World Tour and the PGA World Tour you miss?

Poulter said:

‘Just a few friends that’s it. For me, the LIV product has been very refreshing, to be in a team environment and have teammates that I have the opportunity to play with week in week out, and to be able to grow this franchise. What I miss about the European tour, the Ryder Cup for instance I get for the 14 weeks I play here on LIV. So what I miss there I gain all of it back on this side.’

Poulter highlighted LIV Golf’s efforts to broaden the sport’s appeal and reach new audiences worldwide.

Poulter said:

‘What we’ve done in a short period of time with the LIV product, being more global, taking it to new territories, showing and growing the fan base and actually reducing the actual demographic age of followers is something that’s very exciting – everywhere we’re going we’re gaining a lot of good fans and bringing that younger age group into the game of golf. I think that’s the most exciting piece I think for us, we’ve dropped that age from a 64-year-old down to a 40- year-old. It’s a good thing for the fanbase, it’s a good thing for us and I’m really excited for the franchise’s future.’

Poulter and teammates ‘excited’ about the tours expansion into Saudi Arabia in 2025

Poulter said:

‘It’s very exciting, our first tournament is going to be in Riyadh, I’ve never played the course yet, it’s going to be a test for a lot of the guys. I think for us to experience what Riyadh has to offer – it will give us all an opportunity to spend some time in Riyadh. I think it’s important for LIV for us to continue to grow the game and go to new territories.’
