Marshall Tops Volleyball, 3-0
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team took a straight-set loss to Marshall on Saturday (16-25, 19-25, 14-25) to close out the Greensboro Invitational in Fleming Gym.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Kills from Allie Sweet and an attack error from The Herd, put the Spartans up 3-1 in game one. Marshall responded with a 9-0 run to take the 10-3 advantage over UNCG, never allowing the Spartans take the lead again in set one to claim it, 25-16.
Two consecutive service aces from Aylin Baran, a kill from Sweet and an ace from Chloe Nussbaum gave the Spartans the 4-1 lead in the early goings of set two. Marshall later responded with a 7-0 run to snag a 10-7 lead over the Spartans. The Herd held the advantage for the remainder of set two, earning it, 25-19.
Marshall gained an early 3-1 advantage over UNCG to start the third frame. However, with UNCG down 8-4, the squad notched a 6-2 run, featuring four kills from Madeline Timmerman, a block assist from Madeline and Kendall Lanclos and a block assist from Emily Hanlon and America Anderson to tie the game at 10. The Spartans remained close until The Herd recorded a 7-0 run to take a 20-12 lead. Marshall took set three, 25-15 to claim the 3-0 win.
BY THE NUMBERS
Madeline led the Spartans with nine kills.
Madeline and Baran paced UNCG with two service aces apiece.
Anderson led the match with 5.0 total blocks.
Izora Gragg led the way as the setter for the Spartans with 22 assists.
Nussbaum paced the Spartans with 11 digs.
Lanclos tallied her first collegiate blocks with two.

The Spartans will begin The Southern Conference (SoCon) schedule with a trip to ETSU on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 6:00 p.m. at Brooks Gymnasium in Johnson City, Tennessee. The squad will return home to host Furman on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 5:00 p.m. in Fleming Gym.
The matchup against the Paladins will be a military appreciation game. In addition, the first 60 fans in attendance will receive a FREE Krispy Kreme donut! All regular season home games are free admission.
