UNCG Women’s Golf Ties for Third at Pirate Collegiate Classic
GREENVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women’s golf team finished tied for third on Tuesday at the Pirate Collegiate Classic, hosted by East Carolina at Greenville Country Club.
UNCG freshman Sophie Lauture was named to the all-tournament team after finishing fourth in the tournament at three-under-par (141).
TEAM
The Spartans carded a four-over-par (292) in the opening round on Monday and made it a couple of holes into the second round as well before inclement weather put the tournament on hold until Tuesday.
UNCG finished in a tie for third with Radford at 15-over-par (591) after finishing the second and final round 11-over-par (299).
The Spartans totaled 29 birdies as a team in the tournament. Sophomore Grace Holcomb posted one eagle on the final hole.
High Point won the tournament as a team, finishing two-under-par (574). The tournament host, East Carolina placed second ahead of UNCG at one-over-par (577).
INDIVIDUAL
Lauture led the Spartans at three-under-par (141) in the tournament by carding rounds of 71 and 70. She totaled 10 birdies in the tournament.
Senior Ava Romfo and Sophomore Elle Burnette tied for 17th at four-over-par (148). Romfo shot one-under-par (71) in the first round and five-over (77) in the second while Burnette carded an even par (72) and a four-over (76). Romfo and Burnette each finished the two rounds with six total birdies.
Junior Julia Baeumken tied for 48th while finishing at 10-over-par (154). She carded rounds of 78 and 76 and had three birdies.
Holcomb tied for 58th at 14-over-par. She scored eight-over-par (80) in the opening round, six-over-par (78) in the second round and had four birdies as well as an eagle along the way.
Spartan sophomore Kasey McIlvaine tied for sixth while finishing even par (144) while competing individually. She carded rounds of 71 and 73 and earned six birdies.
Competing in her first collegiate tournament, UNCG freshman Lulu Leetham tied for 55th after finishing 12-over-par (156) individually. She shot a 75 on Monday and 81 on Tuesday and finished the entire tournament with five birdies.
Radford’s Macy Johnson finished at the top of the player leaderboard. She was eight-under-par (136) after shooting a 70 on Monday and 66 on Tuesday.

UP NEXT
The Spartans will head to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, to compete in the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational from Oct. 11-13 at Finley Golf Club.
