High School Football Tonight
Dudley(5-0) at Smith(2-3) 7pm
This game on GreensboroSports Radio 2 with Demetri Morrison with the call, from Claude Manzi Stadium, and that Homecoming Kickoff, from Ben L. Smith High School is coming your way at 7pm…Dudley loaded with rotating QBs of Crawford and Jeffies, RBs with Jayden Brown and LJ Southern, WRs featuring Newkirk, Neely, Bartley, Lee and more…Every name of this list of Dudley players is a potential 1,000 yard player…Dudley with former Smith Golden Eagles, CJ Neely and Rayshawn Wilson, and Wilson is another one of those Dudley running backs now…Game on GreensboroSports Radio, with Demetri Morrison…Smith led by their QB Darius Chukwuemeka, who is also their punter, and he is probably the best overall athlete on the Smith roster…Gavin Palmore and Micah Cowan from the basketball team, also helping out, being a part of the rebuilding of the Smith Golden Eagles football team…Catch this Murphy Wainer Orthopedic Specialists Game of the Week, on GreensboroSports Radio…
Rockingham County(4-1) at Eastern Guilford(2-3) 7pm
Eastern Guilford started slow, but the ‘Cats have won two straight games, to begin at (2-0) in the Mid-State 3-A Conference…EG led by QB Javion Majette, RB Caleb Creech, and WR/DB/ATH Steven Murray…Other leaders for EG include big D-lineman Xavier Wilson, LB Samari Smith, DL Shade Green, and ATH DJ Parker….Majette is beginning to settle in as the Wildcat QB, and he has begun to make his team a key threat as the season advances, and the playoffs get rolling…EG looking to roll through their conference games, all the way up to their last encounter, which will have EG, headed to Dudley…This will not be an easy task, with the ROCK coming to Gibsonville…EG must be ready for the Doug Robertson-coached Cougars…Lots standing in the way for EG, but the ‘Cats appear poised to knock the walls down, or to go around the walls, and find the best way to end zone…At Tommy Grayson Stadium…
High Point Central(0-5) at Northeast Guilford(2-3) 7pm
Northeast Guilford playing the numbers game, and working to win all of the games that they are supposed to win in the Mid-State 3-A Conference, and that would find the NEG Rams at the doorstep of the NCHSAA playoffs…Must be ready to win all of these winable games, and ready to knock on the door, and then knock the door down, and go into the playoffs…Tristan Tucker at QB, Trey Alexander at RB, Ashton Timberlake at WR, and Aaryn Tate at WR, are the key offensive weapons for NEG…Jackson and Jacen Hester are very good DBs and special teams players for NEG…Reed Shelton is a very good sophomore punter for the Rams…Do not have a good read on the HP Central Bison, with not much game info available on this Chuck Doak-coached team…At Bill Bookout Stadium…
Southern Guilford(1-4) at WS Atkins(1-4) 7pm
SG hanging tough, as the times have gotten tough down on Drake Road…Soph QB Seth Davis has been trying to rep out strong in his second season leading the Storm, but the development of the players beside him, and around him, has not been happening fast enough to allow the Storm to keep up, in the fast lane of high school football in Guilford County…RJ Scott is another Soph for the Storm that plays QB, but Scott is more of a running QB…Travis Covington gives the SG Storm an option on the outside, teams can key on Covington, since he is the primary target of the SG QBs…SG needs more quality numbers, and they are in a game tonight, that if SG plays their best ball, they can win this game at WS Atkins tonight…
Grimsley(5-0) at Western Guilford(4-1) 7:30pm
Grimsley out there at the Doug Henderson Stadium tonight, and Mr. Henderson’s old Hornets, hosting the Grimsley Whirlies…Coach Henderson would coach against current Grimsley coach Darryl Brown’s grandfather C.K. Siler back in the day when the WG Hornets and the SG Indians were doing battle, and Coach Henderson won his fare share of those games…But, this is 2024, and not 1974, and this year’s WG team, led by RB Timothy Baker, RB Elijah Hayes, and QB Caleb Moore, are not going to be capable of stopping the G-men, because this Whirlies bunch is packed and loaded with D League College players…Take your pick, DI, DII, or DIII, the fellas from the G, are going to be lining and playing college football all over the land/USA…Jeremiah Dotson is a fine WG defender, but he is going to need some help, maybe in the form of the West Friendly Avenue National Guard, if he and his Hornets are going to slow down Faizon Brandon, Mitchell Summers, Kaden Catoe, DJ Howerton, Hudson Cooper and that is just the players on offense…Then you have to face Bryce Davis, Adrian Hill, Ryan Debow, and the like, as you get ready to attack the Grimsley Defense….Win the toss, take the ball, and don’t give it back until it is flat…In other words, get the ball first and keep on a LONG, error-free drive that consumes 47 1/2 minutes…Good luck with all of that…But, in end writing the context of the Grand Scheme of Things, Grimsley is just so loaded, that the National Guard idea might be the route for us to take…
Southwest Guilford(1-4) at Northern Guilford(5-0) 7:30pm
They had a JV 34-28 game, with NG winning in OT, on Thursday night, but this game should be nowhere near that close…NG has to get the ball early, and often, and in the process make a Statement that the Nighthawks can play super football on a dry track/field…NG has the backs to burn you, with Amare Akers and Dwight Hall, plus NG QB is one of the better running QBs in the state, and it is never too late to get Kemp cooking…Run that young man, get that #7 moving like Joe Theisman used to do….Jaxon Kemp, pretty much already the second best QB in the county, right behind Faizon Brandon, from the Whirlies of Grimsley, and Jaxson Kemp is looking for, and finding ways to exceed all his past accomplishments for the NG Nighthawks…Reggie King and Greyson Council at WR are also big and steady targets on the outside for the ‘Hawks…LB Chance Crews has paid his dues, and in the process, he has become the leader for the NG Nighthawks’ defense…LB Noah Smith is another one of those NG defensive leaders, plus you have Parker Peters, Bobby Bah, Tajae Alston, and more…Big O-linemen like Sam Bagley and Tristan Swinney help to get the big push up front for the ‘Hawks…Southwest Guilford has seen its share of struggles this season, and unfortunately for the Cowboys, they could see those struggles continuing tonight…They may even double up, as we think Northern Guilford is set for a ‘Statement Game’, after their offense was slowed by the rain and wet conditions last week…Watch out for that ‘Statement Game’…At Johnny Roscoe Stadium…
Page(2-3) at Northwest Guilford(4-1) 7:30pm
Like Dudley at Smith, this Page at NWG game can be found on GreensboroSports Radio…Pregame at around 6:45, and then the opening kickoff comes down the middle at 7:30, on this our Murphy Wainer Game of the Week, on GreensboroSports Radio….Coach Randy Norris will be joining us for this broadcast…NWG coming off that tough loss last week at Grimsley, and Page riding a two-game winning streak in the Metro 4-A Conference…NWG with that very strong ground game, featuring McKinnly Vance, Nathan Cox, and Ethan Dean…Rakem Hammock is the top NWG receiver, and Anders Mitchell, the NWG QB, will do his best to get him the ball…Austin Jackson leading the NWG into action, and NWG with two very strong kickers…Going to be a tough line battle too…Page finding its feet and its balance with the Pirate freshman and sophomores making it happen….Those young Page players to watch include Zamari Williamson(QB), Jesse Poole(RB), Zion Malloy(WR), and those 3 are freshman, plus you have the sophomores from Page, with Kasai Poindexter(ATH) and Marqui Lynch(WR/DB)…Page is young, and they are loaded with those youthful players….Christian Brown among the Page defensive leaders and the Pirates with a very good kicker in Santiago Garcia…It will be Homecoming at R.L. Billings Stadium, on the Northwest Guilford High School campus….
Southeast Guilford(2-3) at Ragsdale(2-3) 7:30pm
At Kenneth Miller Stadium in Jamestown with SEG coming off of a 6-0 loss at home vs. Northern Guilford, and Ragsdale still smarting from their loss last week at Page HS…SEG with QB Alexander Marsh, RBs Teriq McLaughlin and Ian McKinnon, plus WR Eric Gladney…Ragsdale runs it well, with RB Fabian Diggs…Diggs becoming the big-play running back, and he got his Tigers on the scoreboard with a 75-yard run to glory/TD last week at Marion Kirby Stadium…SEG will mix it up some, but Ragsdale has to rely on the run to get them rolling and to keep them rolling….
High Point Andrews(3-3) OFF
South Wake(3-2) at High Point Christian Academy(5-0) 7pm
HPCA off last week, and we will watching close to see if they can carry out all that they have established in the early part of the the 2024 season…Time to see if the Cougars can finish what they have started, an Unbeaten Season….
