Keck assisted the men’s team to a ninth place finish out of 17 teams at the Pirate Cross Country Invitational on Friday, Oct. 4 in Greenville, North Carolina, at Overton’s Lake Kristi. The Spartans totaled 248 points in their first eight-kilometer race of the season.

Keck was one of two Spartans that finished in the top 50 out of 176 competitors. He led the way for the Blue & Gold taking home 45th place with a time of 24:59.3. This was the first time in his career that he finished below 25 minutes in an eight-kilometer race.

“This award means a lot to me because it has been a long time coming and means a lot to receive this honor during my senior cross country season,” stated Keck. “I’m just grateful to be healthy and to be able to show the work that my teammates and I have been putting in day in and day out. For the first 8k of the season, I was very pleased with the result, but I know there’s a lot more room to grow through the rest of the season. It was a great way to jumpstart the season, and it makes me more excited for the next race.”
