GREENSBORO, N.C. – Chrisbel Alcantara (San Juan, P.R.) and Natalie Moore (Talbott, Tenn.) who ended the night with a kill/dig double-double performance, led the team with 13.0 points as the Guilford College volleyball team swept Randolph College, 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-22) on Friday night on Jack Jensen Court in the Ragan-Brown Field House.

Guilford now stands at an 8-10 record, 4-3 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), while Randolph falls to a 9-9 record, 2-3 in the ODAC.

Guilford phenoms included Alcantara with a baker’s dozen in kills, Moore with 11 kills paired with 12 digs, and Vanessa Johnson (Charlotte, N.C.) showed out with six kills. Maddi Page (Jonesboro, Ga.) helped orchestrate the offense with 36 assists while Madison Bozarth (Greensboro, N.C.) directed the defense with team-high 16 digs.

Statistical leaders for the Wildcats were Jill Warter with eight kills, Tahani Villines finishing with team-high 15 digs, and Jayda Domenech who walked away with a dozen assists. Brooke Murdock had a solid performance with six kills as well.

The Quakers gained momentum with kills from Alcantara, Page, and Kaci Johnson (Winterville, N.C.), along with service aces from Zoe Whisnant (Greensboro, N.C.), who also tallied the third-highest digs for GC with 12, and support from Madison Duvall (Sophia, N.C.), extending their lead to 8-2. Kills from Warter and Brooklyn Finnerty tried to stop GC, but Vanessa Johnson got in her bag as she garnered two kills alongside a kill from Moore. Alcantara and Duvall added to the action along with some RC errors to make it 16-10. The kill by Kaci Johnson, who finished with five kills, a Vivian Cavataio (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) ace, a kill from Page, and Vanessa Johnson’s third kill of the set had the Quakers dialed in. Attacking errors, Alcantara’s fourth kill of the set, and Bozarth’s ace topped off the first set with a 25-16 victory.

It was the Alcantara show in set two as she flexed five kills on the Wildcats. Randolph clenched the lead, however, right before Guilford scored the next four-consecutive points all thanks to Johnson & Johnson and Moore, all assisted by Page to regain the lead. A 5-1 run was born for the Quakers due to an attacking error alongside kills from Duvall, Vanessa Johnson, and Alcantara. Warter tried to stabilize the game for the Wildcats, but the Quakers answered with a 5-0 advancement. Alcantara, Kaci Johnson, and Moore, who finished with four kills in this set, were the cause of this burst. Moore, Vanessa Johnson with her third kill of the set, Alcantara, and Page gave Guilford hopes to end the set early until the Wildcats showed some gumption with seven unanswered-points. Kills from Duvall and Alcantara soon sealed the deal with a set win, 25-19.

The thriller that was set three gave Guilford fans a jumpscare when Randolph delivered ten uninterrupted points. Three-straight clutch-points came from Moore prior to GC’s 5-1 run. The Quakers started to gain traction as a 3-0 run emerged due to Alcantara, Duvall, and Bozarth’s contributions. After Randolph capitalized on Guilford’s errors, GC came through with a 9-0 clutch run with Cavataio’s stellar serving, a kill from Moore, and a crucial block by Vanessa Johnson and Moore. Guilford surged back to claim the set, winning 25-22 and completing the sweep.

The Quakers continue ODAC play and will travel to Virginia Beach on Friday, October 18th at 5 PM to face Virginia Wesleyan.
