Women’s Basketball Dominates North Greenville in Season Opener
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women’s basketball team dominated North Greenville, 91-31, on Monday night in Fleming Gym to begin the 2024-25 season.
The last time UNCG recorded over 90 points was in a 93-25 win over Pfeiffer last season on Nov. 14, in Fleming Gym.
Makiah Asidanya led both teams with a new career-high of 18 points. Jayde Gamble posted her first career double-double with a new game-high of 10 rebounds and adding 17 points, going 4-for-4 from behind-the-arc.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Spartans started the season by notching nine unanswered points and never allowed North Greenville to lead in the game. Asidanya recorded two points at the charity stripe to close out the first quarter with UNCG holding the 15-5 advantage.
UNCG continued to add to its lead by outscoring North Greenville, 33-7, in the second frame. Asidanya also closed out the second quarter by posting a three-pointer and easy layup for the 48-12 lead heading into the break.
Coming out of the locker room, North Greenville recorded its best quarter with 14 in the third. However, UNCG continued to outscore the visiting team, 21-14. Jaila Lee led the Spartans in the third quarter with nine points to send the Spartans to a 69-26 lead heading into the final stanza.
The Spartans continued their momentum into the fourth quarter, only allowing five points from North Greenville. Jailah Clark-Jones pushed the Spartans past the 90-point mark with one final layup for the no-doubt 91-31 victory.
BY THE NUMBERS
Lee and Tasia Johnson both made their debuts as Spartans, while Nya Smith, Kristina Rakotobe and Ayanna Jackson made their collegiate debuts.
Lee was the third-best scorer on the Spartans with 11 points.
Johnson, Jackson and Powell each posted eight points apiece.
Johnson paced the Spartans with five dimes.
Kelly Boyle followed closely behind to record a new game-high of four assists.
Khalis Cain, Yacine N’Diaye and Kristina Rakotobe notched one block apiece.
Gamble led the game with three steals.
The Spartans outmatched North Greenville in points in the paint (34-8), points off turnovers (29-4), second chance points (16-8), fast break points (20-3) and bench points (53-13).

The Spartans will continue at home by hosting USC Upstate on Saturday at noon in Fleming Gym.
